Udupi, Mar 6: Deputy director of fisheries at Malpe, Parshwanath, said that he has sent a report to the deputy director of fisheries, Dakshina Kannada district, recommending to cancel licences of 47 fishing boats which have been violating orders of the central and state governments and transgressing interim order of the state high court.

He was speaking after accepting a petition jointly submitted by Traditional Country Boat Fishermen's Association and Deep Sea Fishermen's Association on Tuesday March 5 seeking legal action against those conducting unscientific fishing activity. He clarified that the department has stopped supplying subsidized diesel to these 47 boats and filed a complaint with Malpe police station and Coastal Security Police Force. He also said that out of these boats, generators of 12 boats were removed, their licences were cancelled and recommendation was sent to the deputy director of fisheries in Dakshina Kannada district seeking cancellation of registrations.

He said that he has also written to the directorate of fisheries department at Bengaluru, seeking permission to undertake strict measures against purse-seine fishermen who have been violating high court orders and conducting unauthorized fishing.

Sampath Kumar of women's police station, Brahmavar police circle inspector, Poovayya, Coastal Security Force police inspectors, Pramod and Nityananda Gowda, Malpe station house officer, Madhu B E etc monitored law and order situation. Fishermen leaders like Karunakar Salian, Shankar Salian, Dayanand Kunder, Vittal Karkara, Chandrakanth Karkera of country boat fishermen's association and others were present.
