Mangaluru: Senior Weaver Vyasaraya Shettigar conferred with Kayaka award

Mangaluru, Mar 6: Kayaka award (weaving department of outside districts) of this year, presented by Charaka organization was conferred on senior weaver Vyasaraya Shettigar of Padu Panambur Weavers’ association.

Vyasaraya is one among the handful of expert weavers who can weave ’80 count Udupi Saree’, which is on the brink of extinction. He is famous as ‘Master’.

Vyasaraya is the recipient state award twice. He was honoured with the award at his residence through the Kadike Trust, which is striving to rejuvenate the weaving of ‘Udupi Saree’ locally.

Members of Padu Panamboor Weavers’ cooperative society, Talipady weavers’ cooperative society, office bearers of Kadike trust and family members of Vyasaraya Shettigar were present on the occasion.
