Karkala: Annual Festival of Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple Celebrated with Fervour

Karkala, Feb 14: The annual festival of Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple Nakre, was recently held with pomp and grandeur.

The four-day festival began with a majestic procession from Nakre to Mahalingeshwara Temple. Members of 'Stree Shakti' groups offered 'Poorna Kumbha Swagat' to Sri Ananta Padmanabha Asranna of Sri Kateel Temple.

A 'Rajata Kavacha' was offered to Lord Mahalingeshwara by Mumbai hotelier Nakre Chandrakanta Shetty. A 'Rajata' was offered to Lord Mahalingeshwara's Balimoorthi by Nakre Sonia Shetty of Mumbai. 'Dwajarohana', 'Bali Utsava', 'Mahapooja', and 'Anna Santarpana', were also held.

On the first day,  Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary released the 21st 'Yakshagana Kruti' of Nakre Bipin Chandra Pal's 'Satya Sangram'.  Mumbai hotelier Nakre Shyam Shetty was the guest of honour for the day. 'Nakre Mahalingeshwara Yakshagana Mandali' performed the Yakshagana 'Satya Sangrama'.

Various types of worship and rituals were conducted on all days of the festival. On the final day, Lord Mahalingeshwara was taken out for 'Jalaka Seve' and 'Katte Pooje' to Nakre Varnabettu House. Following this 'Dhoomavati' and 'Dhoomavati Banta' welcomed Lord Mahalingeshwara and went for 'katte pooje' at Ganadakottige House and Kemmade House.

'Dwajavarohana' was held early in the morning on the fifth day signaling the conclusion of the four-day annual festivities.

The temple's Dharmadharshi N Vishwanath Naik, Saha Dharmadharshi N Muthaya Naik, and Pradhan Archak Vedamurthy N Padmanabh Bhat, as well locals put in all efforts to make the event a successful one. All 'puja vidhis' were led by 'Mukhya Thantri' of the temple Vedamurthy Hayavadhana Thantri, Puttur.
