Bengaluru: Four arrested for storing alcohol for distribution during LS elections

Bengaluru, Mar 11: Excise Vigilance Squad has confiscated 5,800 litre of alcohol, which was stored to distribute to the voters during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, and registered nine cases against the erring persons.

The team of officials of the Excise department has conducted raids at various places in the state since February. These raids are conducted to prevent illegal activities during the election time. So far four people are arrested.

The Excise officials have confiscated 2,576 liters of liquor, 65 liters of arrack, 94 liters of alcohol and 3,300 liters of beer that was being brought into the state from Goa. Five vehicles are also confiscated by the department. The total value of the confiscated goods is said to be Rs 13.13 lac

The Excise department has cautioned that the intensity and frequency of raids will increase in the coming days as the elections are nearing.
