Dubai, Feb 18: FAMAD Pernal is back again with a bang. This time with ’Merit Freight FAMAD Dance Challenge 2009’, a high-profile solo dance competition for Konkani speaking kids aged between 8 to 14 years. For all talented kids, this is a great platform to exhibit their dancing skills and win fabulous prizes. Indeed, a lifetime opportunity.

‘Merit Freight FAMAD Dance Challenge 2009’ will be a glorious event of the year, which will stage a Grand Finale of the dance competition to be held on Friday, 1 May at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium. 

Last date to receive entries is 28 February, 2009 before 10.00 pm UAE time. 

There will be some fantastic cash prizes to be won. The winners will get the following prizes:

1. Winner: Dh 3,003 plus trophy with “Konkani Nach Kumvor / Kumvorn” title
2. First Runner-up: Dh 2,002 plus trophy.
3. Second Runner-up: Dh 1,001 plus trophy.

Apart from the above, there will be special prizes for ‘Best Choreography’ and ‘Best Costume’. All the finalists will receive mementos and gift hampers.


Some of the main rules and regulations of the competition are as follows:

  • This is a solo competition and is open to all Konkani speaking children aged between 8 and 14 years (completed as on 1 May, 2009).  Eligibility will be based on place of birth and/or language spoken.
  • Only Konkani, Tulu and Kannada songs can be selected which should be provided in audio CD or in mp3 / wav or such recognized format. Audio tapes are also accepted.
  • An entry fee of Dhs100 (non refundable) should be paid in advance along with 1 passport size photograph and passport copy.
  • Contestants must take prior permission (if required) from the artist or producer of the music album in order to perform.  For any clarification, please contact the organizers.
  • Duration of the song should be minimum 4 minutes and maximum 6 minutes.
  • Song should be provided on or before 10 March, 2009. Contestants may be asked to change their choice in case of repetition of a song, on first-come-first-served basis.
  • Fire, water and any dangerous material / equipment cannot be used without prior permission.
  • In case of more than 10 entries, elimination rounds will be conducted on 20 March, 2009. All participants should avail themselves for a full day (11.00 am to 6.00 pm) for the elimination.
  • Contestants should report to the organizers at least one hour prior to the start of the competition, and be in the green room at least fifteen minutes before their performance. Only official team members will be allowed in the dressing area.
  • All choreography must be suitable for family viewing. No obscene, vulgar, anti-religious language, posture or dress can be used.  If any such incident is encountered, the organizers reserve all rights to stop the performance immediately and disqualify the contestant.
  • Judging criteria and further details will be explained after the registration process is completed. 
     
    About the event:

    This event is a part of the Famad Pernal’s anniversary celebrations and there will be loads of other entertainment events including a scintillating Konkani play by versatile actors from Famad Pernal. ‘Dony Correa Live In Concert’ comprising of talented local artists will also be the main attraction of this event.     Its a good exposure for the kids to show their talent.Only the concern is the organisers have kept he initial elimination round on March 20, which is too early for the kids to get trained, as this is exam season for all kids. Appreciate if the organisers look into this.

    A good initiative by Famad pernal to encourage konkani dances. But why make un-necessary rules and regulations like get permission from the producer of the album to use the song ? This will only discourage children from taking part.
