Udupi: POWER holds women entrepreneurs' summit

Udupi, Mar 12: Platform of Women Entrepreneurs Registered (POWER), an association of women entrepreneurs held women entrepreneurs' summit on ‘Power Summit’, a conclave to promote entrepreneurship and EMPOWER, decennial celebration of POWER and International Women's Day celebration and Business excellence Award ceremony on March 9 at Hotel Kediyoor.

Inaugurating the summit, K RatnaPrabha, IAS former chief secretary, government of Karnataka said, “This year, new industrial policies will be introduced and women entrepreneurs need to know about the same. The state government has introduced new plans and women entrepreneurs need to make use of it and president and secretary must apply for the same through District Industrial Centre.”



Deputy commissioner of Udupi Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said that women are the backbone of the country’s economy.

RamanadandaNayak, joint director, District Industries Centre, Udupi said, “The number of women is more in the district. There is fifty percent of women staff in manufacturing units as well as in administrative offices. Women play a vital role in the growth of the district.”

The summit witnessed technical sessions by popular resource persons on different topics to empower women entrepreneurs.

K Ratna Prabha spoke on ‘empowering women through entrepreneurship’, Usha Hegde, vice president , Nandu Chemical Industries, Hubli spoke on ‘Business as a tool for pioneering Socioeconomics’, Shenaz Z Khaleeli, PhD, co-founder & Technical director, Pharmaleaf, Bengaluru addressed on the ‘My journey into driving business value outcomes’, Radhika Shetty , performing artiste and founder director Nrityaangan Trust, Mangaluru, delivered her message on the topic ‘Life is calling, are you listening?’, and Shradha Rangnekar , partner, Mrugaya Xpeditions, Goa spoke on ‘Responsible Tourism- adding value to the experience’.

Excellence award for first generation business, Family Business Leadership, Best start up and best social entrepreneur were presented during the valedictory ceremony.

Bhaskar Hande, general manager, zonal office, Syndicate Bank, Manipal, Poonam Shetty, secretary of POWER, Thara Thimmaiah, vice president, Rashmi Vijeyendra , joint secretary, and Priya Kamath, organising secretary were present on the occasion.

Dr Gayathri, president welcomed the gathering and Deena Prabhakar, treasurer, rendered the vote of thanks.

Platform of Women Entrepreneurs Registered (POWER) is an association of Women entrepreneurs. The main objective of the association is to provide a platform for the close interaction of women to enable mutual learning, collective learning, exposure and fellowship. Started in the year 2009, POWER has made significant contribution for empowerment of women through entrepreneurship development. POWER has a vision to create 100 women entrepreneurs in the district. In this context, it is closely working with various government agencies and voluntary organisations to identify, motivate and train young women become independent entrepreneurs.
