Udupi, Mar 13: “Political parties should make sure that they do not violate model code of conduct during campaigns in current Lok Sabha elections,” said deputy commissioner and district election officer Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.

She was speaking after presiding over a meeting held with representatives of various political parties in DC office on Tuesday, March 12.

“All the parties should conduct their campaigns within the parameters of model code of conduct. Apply for approvals in suitable formats together with documents. Take up campaigns after taking all the approvals in advance from the district administration. Take a copy of the approvals with you during campaigns. Obtain suitable permissions to campaign in public places and religious places. Swift disposal of applications by the district administration will be arranged,” she said.

District SP Nisha James asked not to violate code of conduct in religious places. “Police department will issue necessary permissions soon. Avoid friction between parties. Inform of violations immediately. Impartial legal action will be taken against the guilty,” she said.

Additional deputy commissioner Vidya Kumari, representatives of BJP, Congress, Janata Dal and CPIM were present.
