Gujarat Govt Transfers 47 IPS Officials Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Ahmedabad, Feb 18: After a reshuffle in the state IAS administration, the Modi government has transferred 47 IPS officials including Police Commissioner of Surat and Rajkot cities, ahead of Lok Sabha polls to be held in a couple of months.

It may be noted that during last assembly elections in 2007, the Election Commission has ordered transfer of a number of senior IPS officials including state DG PC Pande, Vadodara Police Commissioner PC Thakur, border range IG and SP of several districts.

In the present round of transfers, the state government has shunted out all the "controversial" officials to non executive postings.

Geeta Johri, who was Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CID (crime) has been promoted and posted as Commissioner of Police, Rajkot.

Johri is supervising the investigation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Supreme COurt to probe a few riots cases afresh.

Earlier, she had investigated the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin and disappearance of his wife Kausar Bi, which led to arrest of three IPS officials DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh MN.
