World Consumer Rights Day organised in Udupi

Udupi, March 16: World Consumer Rights Day was organised here in Udupi on Friday, March 15. The programme was organized by district administration, zilla panchayath, Food and civil supplies department, Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum and Consumer information centre Udupi.

L. Nagaraj, Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies advised how to buy smart products.

C V Shobha, president of Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum who was the chief guest addressing the gathering and said, "Since technology is developing rapidly, the consumers must be careful while buying products. The consumer act introduced by John Canady helped consumers. While buying any product, the consumer must try to get information related to pros and cons of it."

She also advised to register complaints at consumer court without free of charges. However, the consumer needs to pay Rs 400 for cases related to products worth Rs 5 to 10 lac and Rs 500 for cases related to products worth Rs 10 to Rs 20 lac.

Consumer forum members were present on the occasion.
