Mangalore, Feb 22: The much awaited launch of daijiworld weekly, a venture of Daijiworld Publications Pvt Ltd., was inaugurated today in a glittering ceremony. Businessman Ronald Coloco, who was the Chief Guest, inaugurated the trial issue of the weekly by ceremoniously unveiling the curtain in the function held at Hotel Deepa Comforts, in Mangalore.
Addressing the gathering Coloco called upon the media to maintain neutrality both in politics and religion. “Media should not be the mouth-piece of any political party or side with any particular religion. Only then we can live a healthy, peaceful and secular society”, he stated. He also cautioned the media from glorifying the terrorists and people involved in underworld activities and said “internal terrorists are much more dangerous than external ones. Media can play a significant role not to venerate such elements which are detrimental to the internal peace and security of this country”.
He also said daijiworld.com has become a major channel of communication and expected daijiworld weekly to continue the good it has begun. It may be recalled that Colaco has inaugurated the daijidubai.com website eight years ago in Dubai. It was rechristened as daijiworld.com which has created a revolution of sort in the field of web journalism establishing its own niche in the field in the last eight years.
Guest of honour and MLA U T Khader pointed out that many individuals and organizations have brought glory to Mangalore and daijiworld also belongs to this list of organizations that have brought laurels to this coastal land. “Today the world has become a global village and daijiworld has created a special place for Mangalore globally”. He also stated that the cultural roots of this land are deeply ingrained for any one to dislodge them easily and called upon youngsters to strive to maintain the culture of the land.
Sudhir P Ghate, Chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt Limited, who was also the guest of honour pointed out “daijiworld has created a small window through which the Indian Diaspora is able to view news pertaining to their motherland just by opening this window”.
Commending the efforts of daijiworld for starting yet another venture Ghate suggested that the new weekly should be made available in different parts of the world wherever there is readership. “Print media has tremendous opportunity. People want to have authentic news and people still believe in print media”. He further added “the biggest challenge for the media today is not gathering news but filtering it so that people are not bombarded with mundane matters”.
Lauding the daijiworld team for their efforts in establishing the link between the NRIs and the coastal region he remarked that Government of Karantaka should honour Walter Nandalike recognizing him for “inventing the small window”.
Editor in Chief of daijiworld.com in his welcome address said “the launching of daijiworld weekly is a dream comes true. There is no single print media which carries NRI related news from the coastal district. But we do not want to brand our weekly as NRI-centric. Our aim is to bridge the link between the west coast and the rest of the world and to reach out to many more people who do not like or don’t have access to internet”.
Editor-in-Chief of daijiworld weekly Hemacharya gave a vote of thanks and assured the gathering that daijiworld weekly will neither be 'left' or 'right' but will be at the centre of needs of the people.
The trial issue of daijiworld weekly was distributed to the august gathering after the ceremonial inauguration of the weekly issue.
In the beginning Anitha Samson rendered the prayer song invoking the blessings of the almighty. Lesli Rego compered the programme.
