Mangalore, Feb 27:
Five people were killed and 25 others were injured, when a newly constructed wall collapsed at Thurkalike near Tannirpantha in Belthangady taluk on the late evening of Thursday, February 26.

The three dead are identified as Rafiq from Moodbidri, Puttumonu from Puttur and Ahmed from Kalenjibail near Belthangady.  Among the other two dead are children aged around 10 years, who have been not yet identified.

25 injured in this horrific tragedy are being admitted into hospitals at Puttur and Belthangady, among them 9 are in serious condition including a small child.

The tragedy occurred during a religious programme “Dikr- Falah” held at Juma Masjid near Turkalike, wherein nearly 4000 people had gathered.

According to local sources, the compound wall was newly constructed recently and the place was overcrowded with some venturing and sitting on the compound wall which gave in.

After the collapse, the locals helped the injured to rush to the nearby hospitals.  More details awaited.

Safety we don't care. Just look around anywhere and you will see that we just dont care for safety. Unless we make "Safety" a subject in our education system, this will keep happening and the blame game will go on. I'm sure here too no one would have kept the safety of people coming for this event, beleive me, 4000 is not a small crowd. We need to wake up and change our education system. Remove CBSE/ICSE,State and make them one and introduce subjects of today. I hope someone would wake up some day and do this. I am willing to support this.

It is very sad to know about the collapse of wall...it looks no foundation was put for the wall, may be constructed by the people without knowledge and experience. Due to negligence poor people lost their lives. My sympathies to all the families.
