Mangalore Impact: Nirmala Venkatesh Removed from NCW

Agencies

NEW DELHI, Feb 28: Nirmala Venkatesh, member of the National Commission for Women, was on Friday removed from her office for failing to conduct an unbiased enquiry into the Mangalore pub attack on girls last month by the Sri Ram Sene activists. She was away in Bangalore on Friday.

File picture

Venkatesh’s report on the attack was not accepted by the Commission for several inadequacies and she was also criticised for going public with her findings before submitting it. Her doing so was outside her mandate and the rights of a member, said a notification issued here by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

In her report, Venkatesh blamed the owner of the pub for not providing security to women guests, and recommended suspension of its licence. While claiming that she was unable to trace the victims, Venkatesh met the accused in jail to seek their help in locating the girls. At one point in time, she even suggested that women refrain from wearing “skimpy” and provocative dresses.

When her report was not accepted by the Commission, Venkatesh even challenged the authority of Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury.

Justice finally prevails. This lady who is supposed to take up for women and accordingly make an fair assessment of the ground reality has gone and given a complete biased report of the happenings at the Mangalore Pub. Nirmala Venkatesh you deserved what you got. We want you to know that the women of Mangalore won't tolerate arrogant women like you, who turn out to be even worse then the so-called moral brigade, with your damaging report.

Why do you blame Sonia Gandhi? Nirmala is responsible or her removal because of her irresponsible attitude. It is nice to know that culprits are being punished through Supreme court order. They are thrown out of Mangalore one by one. Poor yedyurappa not able to do anything to save these fanatic sangh parivar people. Soon Mr. Yedyurappa will be thrown out for his misdeeds.

Mr (George Cruz) your comments are meaning less. She was heading the investigation group for the attack on womens and she mentioned as Ram Sena is feeling guilty of what they did. Dont compare India with western countries.... In western countries Ram Sena is not present and these kind of incidents does not occur.

Mr. Antony T. D' Souz, Karkala / Qatar, some of your points are well taken. It is definitely a beastly act (done by goonda elements of Ram Sene) to beat on young and helpless girls. The bottom line is that the pub didn’t have proper license or SECURITY to PROTECT these young girls.

Nirmala Ventesh is correct from an investigator’s point of view even though her objectives might have been politically motivated. Nirmala Venkatesh is a smart lady and probably has future political aspirations. Many derogatory and personal comments against Nirmala Venkatesh are simply uncalled for. One good thing might come out this incidence would be for pub owners NOT to operate a pub without proper LICENSE and SECURITY.

George Cruz, you wonder there how ? but here she deliberately deviated from the purpose for what she was deputed in. She began investigation wrongly and therefore she ended up today rightly. If western practices to be honoured here, one new portfolio to be assigned and this lady who will naturally fit in. Every other door pubs run without licenses.

Yet only this particular pub was targeted ? Do you find there moral policing and public trashing on young girls without prior warnings or talibanization ? Does politics runs there if such attacks are carried out ?. Here you may learn from Nirmala !

In the first place one should ask the NCW what criteria do they have for enrolling ineffecient members? Secondly it is not surprising to see this shoddy work of investigation as its a given those involved in public matters are there not by merit but definitely by manuplation. We Indians are too proud to admit our short commings.

We see that we are lazy and ineffective in our own country and excel abroad. Morale of the story is time to vote wisely and actively participate to make our public servants responsible. Its not the question of Nirmala or anyone. We should all accept our double standards and make sure to put the right people for good governance.

Nirmala Venkatesh did what is expected of a good investigator. It is a common practice even in the western countries to check the license of the pub as a first step towards full investigation. She violated the principles of UPA/NCW which is "DO NOTHING - LET THE COUNTRY GO TO HELL" and got fired.

Mr Maxim What is Modi and what is SM krishna.. people have given their verdict and proved it. The whole natiion full of people like you were behind but still couldnt even shake Modi in the last elections. He has proved it. What happend to Congress after SMK's rule in karnataka you only know it. So thers no way you can compare them. Its because of people like Modi Gujarath is still there in India else it would have been another Kashmir of west bordering Pakistan. Coming to SM Krishna, i have a high regards to him as our only CM in recent times with good education and a calibre worth for the seat. There was no other person much deserving our CM's post as all are looter's in Soudha. And its its not of Krishna but the genrel attitude of congress towards a class of people made public to remind them where they belong to. You cant compare them in their areas.People who support party which prefers painting our country green have no right to talk about the party which is saffronising. Saffron is always better than green. Else we will be the next Pakisthan, Afganisthan or Iraq.If the intrests of origins of the land are safegaurded in countries like Middle east, or west then why not in India.

Sobha, Sonandoor/Belthangdy - Your expression of views are saddening. I would be happy to read constructive criticisms rather than fanatical comments. They reflect your thinking power and your desire to earn power by neglecting the justice and promoting the evils in society. As I can read from your writings, it appears that you are an active Bajaranga Dal and BJP worker.

I do not have any problem with that but you must think what you believe is the only correct way or wrong way. Ask yourself, how true are you to your family, society, nation and world ? As Newton said - every object, be it small or gigantic, has a force acting between them which is the gravitational force. Sociologically, you cannot view any event or situation in total isolation. You must have a broad thinking, broad exposure to the world.

You must also know there is something called outside world, not just India. We must collaborate with talents across the globe and try to solve the problems that we face today. Problems such as climate change, fuel etc. threaten the existence of all living beings. There are formidable problems to be solved - why dont you take up a leading role to inspire all the ignorant youth from Rama Sena and Bajaranga Dal and educate them to take up challenges in the direction of making our planet a better place to live. We must take up proactive role in shaping the careers of these youth -

I feel sorry to tell that many of these youth are misguided by few individuals to serve their personal interests. You must practice values which are transcendental and productive. Give these youth a good careers. They will know what to do when time comes. Be a good guide, not a satan.

This is not victory of pseudo-secularism but a great victory for the humanity and relief for the innocent pub victims. We will not feel the pain of the pinch unless some one pinches us.

When one acts on prejudice manner like Nirmala Venkatesh this is bound to happen. She has forgotten the core issue of attack by Ram Sena members on girls which even the bare eyes on the video clips cannot say wrong. As the there is saying if it is truth even 100 people says it is lies still it is truth and if it is lie even 100 people says it is truth still it is lie. If Nirmala Venkatesh has acted keeping in mind only honesty and truth, then no Govt. power could not have shaken her. Nirmala Venakesh attitude to this issue was completely biased and report was nothing but malicious. It leads to doubt that her self interest is more important. Might be she is eying the position if BJP ruled state better position. Well done. Nirmala deserved this and she dug her own grave.

Though I dont agree with the manner in which this issue was handled by Nirmala Venkatesh, it certainly does not warrant her removal from the NCW. If the Indian leadership has become so sensitive to the work ethics of the personnel holding public offices, I guess 60% of the politicians holding ministerial jobs should be sacked for disturbing peace in the parliament and for speaches creating instability in the country.

Indian Governance is characterised by the BD/RSS/Sangh Parivaar? It was not becoming of a responsible officer when she retorted saying " I do not know any Renukas or anyting..." It was better for a diplomatic officer to reply is a fitting manner to say enquiry is on and results would be published in the report after the completion... etc.." No politician, public servant commissioner, appointed respresentative to carry out responsibilities of public Interest and law and Order. It was evident that the Ego was greater than the lady... is it still?? Public service commissioners whould not be doing Politics but selfless service. Or else doing Only Politics... As for Naik maam, Elections are arround the corner and win for BJP will depend on Mangalore Pub, Church attacks, Gang clashes... etc... R sene is getting Free advertisement at the cost of BD/RSS/Sangh P who hold the right to petty to large scale Mob activities leading to Godhra.... No Violence and Violent Speeches and acts are rewarded with Kind acts.... It is Better to be Supple and bend than stiff anf Break as is seen in te case here... And Ask the criminal about the Victim??? Is it the Indian having any clue/faith in indian governance structure ?? Where does Sonia come in here ?? To counter Can we say the truth about Modi will come out when he is out of power now that some truth is already spilling out...???- starting a bad precidence ... ???

Congress misuses power at the centre and BJP openly misuses government machinery and abuses power in Karnataka. Both are evil, it is for people to decide and choose the lesser evil. Currently, it appears that there are too many partisan commissions and rights bodies in India to keep the politicians wives and also their relatives occupied. All such toothless organizations are not credible, are just a waste of public funds and should be dissolved.
