Bantwal: Man arrested for raping minor, impregnating her

Bantwal, Mar 25: A youth was arrested on Saturday on charges of developing physical relationship with a minor girl by promising to marry her.

The arrested man has been identified as Somashekhar (19) from Basavarajapura in Belur taluk, Hassan district, who currently lives near Mavinakatte in Chennaittody village in the taluk. He works as a labourer. The victim is now pregnant.

The girl in question is a relative of Somashekhar. She has lost her father. She had come here along with her grandparents to work as coolie. They stayed in makeshift tents and went for work.

Reportedly, the accused came close to the girl during late night hours on a day a few months back, promised to marry her and developed physical relationship. The police said that the girl is pregnant now. The accused himself had brought the girl to the government hospital in the town for check up. The doctors, during their routine check, found that the girl was pregnant. On the basis of information provided by them, the police arrested the man and charged him with offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
