Udupi, Mar 25: For the first time on Sunday, March 24, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Congress-JD(S) candidate Pramod Madhwaraj visited Udupi district JD(S) office and addressed the JD(S) supporters.
Addressing JD(S) members, Pramod said, “Considering the request by JD(S) leader Deve Gowda, with the permission of my party leaders, I decided to contest from this constituency. We have come together to defeat BJP. There is a need to save the Constitution and democracy of the country today. Our coalition government and the last Siddaramaiah government have done tremendous developmental works in the state. Now there is a need to tell people about the work we have done.
“Many JD(S) leaders have also extended their support to me. Our party men and leaders of Congress were very much unhappy when Udupi-Chilkmagaluru constituency was allotted to JD(S). But fortunately, I got the chance to contest in this constituency from JD(S) party. JD(S) leader Madhu Bangarappa has assured his presence during the filing of my nomination. I will be filing the nomination on March 25 at 2 pm at DC office here. There will be joint meeting of the Congress and JD(S) members at Udupi Congress Bhavan prior to filing nominations,” he said.
Pramod also requested JD(S) members to campaign for him. He also assured that he will give equal importance to the members of Congress and JD(S) if he is elected as MP.
JD(S) leader M B Sadashiv, speaking on the occasion said, “Modi government has appointed some person who does not know anything about economy to the post of RBI Governor which usually handled by economists. This government has also interfered in the proceedings of the CBI, which is a statutory body. The central government also took Rs 28,000 crore rupees as a loan from RBI. They have decided to change the Constitution of our country. In this election, there is a need to vote for secular parties.”
Another JD(S) leader Amaranath Shetty addressing the gathering said, “As per our leaders’ orders, both Congress and JD(S) have to work together in this Lok Sabha elections. Pramod Madhwaraj is the right and eligible candidate. Modi government has sold five of our airports to Adani and Ambani. If they get the power again, they will sell all the national property to these rich men. They have only given assurances but not fulfilled any. Modi has declared emergency in the country everyday.”
Yogish Shetty, JD(S) president, Udupi district, Mohammed Kunhi, JD(S) president, Dakshina Kannada, Congress leaders M A Gaffur, G M Bava, Vishwas Amin, Vasudeva Bhat and others were present.
