Mangaluru, Mar 26: In a case of alleged drunken driving, the driver of a police jeep smashed into the divider near the railway station at Hampankatta here on the night of Tuesday March 26.

The driver, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was allegedly driving the police jeep under a heavy influence of alcohol. He was part of the reserved police team, sources said.

The police jeep climbed over the divider before coming to a stop. As soon as the accident happened, people gathered in large numbers and took the driver to task.

Videos and pictures taken by the locals revealed that the driver was so drunk that he could barely walk properly.

It is alleged that police personnel who arrived at the spot objected to the locals taking pictures and videos of the incident.

Within no time, the pictures and videos of the accident became viral in social media.

The police however did not confirm that the driver was drunk. According to the police, the driver rammed into the divider after he veered the jeep in a bid to avoid hitting an oncoming auto rickshaw.
