Kaup, Mar 27: In an incident which happened on Tuesday March 26 afternoon near Eastwest Nursery on national highway at Muloor near here, a person walking beside the highway died after being run over by a Maruti Omni van.
The deceased was Rama Poojary (68), residing near Addathodu near Sunni Centre at Muloor.
Poojary was walking on the west side of the road when the van that was being driven at high speed recklessly toward Udupi from the direction of Mangaluru hit him. Poojary fell onto the road and suffered serious injuries to his hands and head. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital at Udupi, but the doctors said he was no more.
Rama Poojary used to serve as car driver in Kaup in the past. He is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter-in-law. A case against the Omni driver was registered at the police station here.
