Bengaluru, Mar 27: Accusing Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy of neglecting his duties and concentrating on the electoral campaigning of his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, former minister and state BJP spokesman S Suresh Kumar on Wednesday claimed that the Congress-JD(S) coalition regime was in tatters due to internal contradictions.’

Addressing a news conference at the State party office, the BJP leader said the victory and electoioneering of his son was more important to Kumaraswamy, who was acting like a dutiful father.

Kumar condemned the total abuse of power by the Chief Minister in Mandya to harass Sumalatha Ambareesh, Independent candidate and wife of Late actor M H Ambareesh, who is contesting against the JD(S) candidate Nikhil.

Kannada movie actors Yash and Darshan were not spared either for extending their support to Sumalatha, he said.

The BJP leader said the JD(S) was facing dearth of candidates and said the former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and State Public Works Minister H D Revanna’s son Prajwal were contesting in 3 out of the 8 seats allotted to it. Out of the 8 seats allotted to JD(S) from the total 28 Lok Sabha seats in the State as part of the coalition seat-sharing arrangement, the JD(S) had surrendered two seats to Congress with a Congress candidate made to contest on the party symbol in one.

Kumar demanded that the State Election Commission should declare MandyaConstituency as a poll-sensitive area and said the EC is duty-bound to ensure that the electorate of Mandya witness free and fair polling.

Noting that not many women candidates come forward to contest elections, he said that it is unfortunate that those who take the step likeSumalatha are troubled.

Further, there are 3 candidates by the name Sumalatha in the list of candidates to confuse the voters in Mandya, he said.

The Congress candidate from Ramanagara D K Suresh has distributed 25,000 buttermilk packets tothe people which is a violation of poll code of conduct and a complaint has been filed with the Election commission, Suresh Kumar said.
