Udupi: Girl, her neghbour, drown when washing clothes near Baje dam

Udupi, Mar 28: A girl who had approached the backwaters of Baje dam near Hiriyadka for washing clothes, slipped and fell into the water. Her neighbour, a woman, who tried to save the girl from drowning, also lost her life. This tragic incident happened on Wednesday March 27.

The victims of this tragedy were Pushpa (47), wife of Krishna from Kukkehalli, and Ashwini (12), daughter of Manjunath and Sujatha couple. Both of them had come near Baje dam together to wash clothes in the backwaters. Pushpa was trying to save the girl who slipped all of a sudden, and paid by her own life.

Some locals who were nearby rushed to the rescue of the duo. They carried both the victims to the hospital. But by then both were not alive. The mortal remains were kept in the mortuary of KMC Hospital Manipal. A case relating these deaths was registered in Hiriyadka police station.
