Mangalore: Yenepoya Medical College Celebrates Fifth Graduation Ceremony

Mangalore, March 3: The fifth graduation ceremony of Yenepoya Medical College was held here on Tuesday March 3, at the outdoor auditorium on the Yenepoya University campus.
Degrees were awarded to103 graduates of the 2003 batch and 12 postgraduates. They were administered the oath by R N Sujeer, principal, Yenepoya Medical College.
The guest of honour was Tilak R Kem, director, Consortium for Educational Communication, who presented the degrees along with Dr Vina Vaswani, professor and head of department, forensic medicine.
Speaking on the occasion Kem said, “Education in India among youths stands at only 10 percent whereas in USA and Europe it is above 50 percent. But if you look at NASA in the USA, more than 30 percent of its employees are Indians. Thus, if our education percentage goes up even 15 percent, it will create a revolution”.
He said that more and more Indians must get an education as our country has a huge population and an increase in the number of graduates will only make it richer.
Kem also expressed satisfaction about an increase in the number of girls getting an education as compared to boys. He remarked that when girls get an education, the family too is educated.
He added that India was the ideal destination for medical tourism and said that the graduates and post graduated can contribute to this.
Prof Syed Akheel Ahmed, vice- chancellor, in his address reminded the students that it respecting parents and teachers, the ambition to learn more, and thirst for knowledge, were very important.
Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, chancellor, Yenepoya University, presided over the function. Dr Sathish Totey, chief scientific officer, Stempeutics Research, India and Malaysia, Dr Ravi Vaswani, registrar, P C M Kunhi, director, and trustees and heads of the various departments of the college, were present.
At the beginning of the event, the graduates marched in.
Dr Mahesh gave the vote of thanks and Prof Ravishankar of Mangalore University was the master of the ceremony. A variety entertainment programme also took place afterwards.
