Puttur: Police detect illegal cattle trafficking - rescue animals, arrest two

Puttur, Mar 29: A team of policemen from Uppinangady station here succeeded in detecting illegal transportation of cattle. 20 animals, and the goods lorry used for their transportation were taken into possession on Thursday March 28. Two persons were arrested in this connection.

The arrested persons happen to be Muhammed Sameer (33) from Kulur, Mangaluru, and Ismail (45) from Kavoor, Mangaluru. The police were checking vehicles based on credible information near Nekkilady Junction on Thursday when they came across a truck in which cattle were tied up in a violent way inside goods compartment. The transporters did not possess any licence or permit to carry the animals. The police concluded that they were being taken to an illegal slaughterhouse.

During the inspection, driver of the vehicle, Nissar, Mustafa Kokkada and Basheer, succeeded in running away from the spot. The total value of animals and lorry which were taken into possession has been put at Rs 4.55 lac. The arrested persons were produced in the court.
