Clash of Titans: Is it S M Krishna vs Ananth Kumar in Bangalore South?

Clash of Titans: Is it S M Krishna vs Ananth Kumar in Bangalore South?

Bangalore, Mar 5: The heavyweights of major political parties have been back in active ‘political’ business since the Election Commissioner announced the dates for the parliamentary polls.

Many interesting developments are likely to take place in the next few days as party leaderships are busy finalizing candidates.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to have done its homework well. Their game plan might well help them get ahead of other parties in the state.

The Congress party, however, is unfortunately plagued by infighting with regard to the choice of candidates. It appears the party has not learnt from the humiliating defeat in the assembly polls last year.

Bangalore South, always a prestigious parliamentary seat from Karnataka, is one constituency where the election heat has been turned on much earlier than others.

Though neither party has made any official announcement, the grapevine has it that the state’s former chief minister and former governor of Maharashtra S M Krishna will take on BJP’s senior leader and former union minister Ananth Kumar.

Krishna had not contested the assembly polls from Madhur or Chamarajpet as popularly expected, but had chosen to spearhead the Congress campaign.

Daijiworld has learnt from reliable sources that the Congress high command has been putting pressure on Krishna to contest from Bangalore south to defeat BJP’s star candidate Ananth Kumar.

“Ananth Kumar has been representing the constituency for more than a decade now”, said a source in the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). “He was a cabinet minister in the central government. To defeat him, we need a star candidate and the high command has asked to Krishna to take up the cudgels”, added the source.

The BJP is not surprised at this development, “We are least bothered who the candidate is. We know how to tackle them,” says a confident Sadananda Gowda, state BJP president.

Sources close to S M Krishna claim that the high command may have planned something, but it would be discussed thoroughly before a decision is taken.

Sometime next week, the suspense will be unraveled and it will be clear if Bangalore south constituency will witness the clash of the titans or not.

This is a conspiracy to finish Krishna politically. In Bangalore South BJP holds 5 out of 8 seats and lost the sixth very narrowly. Also parliament elections are held on national level issues and economy and security being major issues in Urban areas and anti incumbency brewing against UPA in urban areas putting Krishna against Ananth Kumar is a brain dead idea. Ideal place for him to fight is Mandya Loksabha seat. If he had fought from Madduru last assembly election congress could have picked up around 10 seats from old Mysore area and around 5-10 seats in Bangalore city to have emerged as a single largest party. If he fights from Mandya now atleast congress supporters in old Mysore area (Mysore, Tumkur, Kolar, Hassan, Mandya) will be energized and congress would be on its way to comeback in Karnataka by getting vote share from JD(S). It has to wait for anti incumbency to set in coastral Karnataka and North Karnataka to become ruling party again.

Speaking about IT companies it is not because of S.M.Krishna that they came to Bangalore. Its because of the climate, availability of quality manpower ,the cosmopolitan nature etc In fact they were coming to Bangalore when J.H.Patel was the Chief Minister Its only by luck that he was the Chief Minister when there was a Boom in IT sector. And the infrastructure was pathetic during his time

There is no way Krishna Can win against Ananth Kumar as after delimitaion Bangalore south has become a BJP strong hold there are 5 BJP MLA's and only 3 Congress. That too Ashwatnarayana of Congress won by a few votes.

There is no doubt that Ananth Kumar will win hands down. Some one's speaking of rigging which is laughable as he has won 4 times in a row that too from Bangalore which is not a like a remote place in Bihar or Jharkand to rig elections.Even there too it is not possible now a days because the Election Commission has become strict after Seshan

SM Krishna won't even win in his own constituency Mandya-Maddur. He supported his brother's son - he also lost!... What can he do against one of the veteran Ananth? This is a sure case of cook-up against SMK - where some senior congressmen wants to see Krishna losing... Dharam-Kharge dont want him to grow :) Might be Bangarappa's support here very crucial - because he has a good power over a significant number of voters in this constituency!.. The fact is Bangaru wont go against Ananth..

MR. S.M. KRISHNA'S contribution towards Karanataka was great during his tenure as chief minister (2000-2004). He was one of the POPULAR & SUCCESSFUL chief ministers. Karnataka was ECONOMICALLY Nuumber 1 state in India, (specially due to IT sector) during his administration. He was concentrating on development. It WAS HIS BRAINCHILD of introducing "MID DAY MEAL (MADYAHNADA BISIYOOTA" to all primary school children, to encourgage poor children to go school & get educated. THIS BECAME POPULAR and other states too followed the same. We need politicians like Krishna & he should win.

Yes we agree that SM Krishna had done a lot to the state while he was a CM.BUT I HAVE A QUESTION.Why did the congress remove him and put a sleeping CM Dharam Singh. The whole of karnataka suffered during this time.WAS BJP Responsible for this. ANANTH KUMAR will win and SM Krishna should be careful to contest against Ananth kumar.

Some hard truth for staunch congressmen here. Please take it positively to strengthen people to people contact and peace in the society. As an opposition party in Karnataka and a ruling party at the centre, does congress did its job to strongly stand by the women who were attacked and also by the victims of many extremist attacks or did they arrange any protest against the BJP governments inability to act sternly against hindu extremists relating to church attacks ?

Absolutely NO. They were WATCHING the proceedings and virtually mute spectators. But WHY ? Are they also part of the conspiracy ? Are they also concerned about hindu vote bank ? What does the conscience of Congressmen say ? I did not get any answer for myself. Did you ?

This is an interesting tussle. But for the time being the onus is with S M Krishna, I feel. People of Bangalore have always rooted for S M Krishna. Those who live/work in Bangalore surely know that SMK is much better than Ananth Kumar. He has a clean image unlike Ananth Kumar who is known to be communal by core.

Krishna is a popular figure among Congress workers too, whereas Ananth Kumar has to fight his own men, beginning from the chief minister Yeddyurappa. BJP has always been a divided house owing to the prestige issue of Yeddy and Ananth Kumar. If Krishna contests polls, for sure, there will be a group of BJP people who will work against Ananth Kumar

Krishna is a day dreamer without actions. Other than minor contribution to IT field his performance AS CM was nothing. As the Governer of Maharashtra his contribution to and involvement in Maharashtara is again ZERO.

He hardly remained in Mumbai during his tenure and most of the time he spent travelling to Delhi-Mumbai-Banglore. So i cannot expect anything from him as MP if he wins other than one more session of day dreaming.

People of Karnataka, wakeup you need to rise up above all odds and make sure to vote the right people to bring Laurels to your state and peace to your country at large. If we need right person to govern our state then each one of you should cast your vote and bring in one party with absolute Majority in the state and at the center. My opinion at present only Congress Party can govern the country with the current youth that is emerging as future leaders of our proud Nation. Jai Ho India.

Ananth Kumar is no match for a popular figure like SMK. What Bangaloreans witnessing a boom in IT sector, infrastructure is mainly because of Mr.S.M.Krishna. I am not a supporter but admirer of an indvidual who has contributed immensely for the benefit of downtroden, middle class IT professionals.

Today most of us have prospered because of this gentleman. So, Congress men gear up, support Mr. Krishna. Rest is history as we need people like SMK,Dayanidhi Maran, Chidambaram, Rahul Gandhi to lead our country in the prospective direction.

Paint the BJP in black this time. There is division in the society because they support Hindu extremist which is like a cancer spreading in the society and bad for a developing country like India. We have to choose right candidate irrespective of their party affiliation and move towards our goals.

Anantha Kumar is clearly the favourite. However internal politics of BJP can be an advantage for the congress. S M Krishna has a good image as a successful chief minister who spearheaded the I T Campaign in Bangalore. If he wins, he can even get a ministerial berth at the centre in the event of UPA forming the next government. Mr Kumar on the other hand is known to have his own followers within the BJP and it is no secret that Yeddi lobby can 'secretly' work against him.
