Rahul Gandhi to contest LS polls from Wayanad too, apart from Amethi

New Delhi, Mar 31 (IANS): In a major decision, the Congress on Sunday announced that party President Rahul Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Wayanad in Kerala, apart from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

The announcement was made at a press conference here by senior party leader A.K. Antony and the party's communications incharge, Randeep Singh Surjewala.

The Congress had been given indications that Gandhi will contest from a seat in the south and Wayanad was mentioned as a possible choice.

Gandhi, who has been representing Amethi, won the seat by a reduced margin in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls by defeating Union Minister Smriti Irani and she is challenging him again in the constituency in the 2019 elections.

Surjewala said Gandhi will be contesting from a seat that in a way represents three southern states.

"It will be a message of unity of the the north and the south," he said.

Surjewala accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of causing divisions and said that the lives of people in south India was important to the Congress.

He also said that Gandhi has "family ties" with Amethi and the "BJP's dirty conspiracies cannot break it".

Asked which seat will Gandhi retain if he wins both in Amethi and Wayanad, Surjewala said that when the Congress forms a government following the polls, the party President will represent the entire country.

It will be interesting to see how much percentage will Mr. RG will get in Wayanad given the fact that official estimate of non-Hindu population is about 65%. Unofficially, this number could be higher. If he is going to win with a slender margin in Wayanad, then, it is not a good development for RG or the Congress party. Also, Mr. RG should not compare with PM Modi's 2014 contesting from two constituencies. PM Modi was doing it for the first time and even NDA never thought they were about to sweep the elections with such large numbers during 2014. And, PM Modi is not contesting from two constituencies in 2019 as he is sure of winning from one constituency.

a far as election is concerned congress vote share is more than bjp(excluding 2014 election) in my calculation congress vote share is more than 25% and bjp vote share decreases from 30% to 20% for ex. last yrs Gujarat assembly election bjp lost 10% vote share and recently held rajasthan ,M.P and chattisgrah election bjp lost more than 10% vote share compared to 2014 election and after 2014 ,27 L.S by election bjp lost almost half this shows bjp popularity coming down wherever bjp is losing congress is gaining this is because of Rahul Gandhi charisma in coming election also samething will happen

Modi has taught a few things even to his opponents.

Modi may be absolutely against Pakistan in front of TV Camera's and in rallies, but sends personal messages to Pak wishing them on national day.

But, at least congress and CPI are both Indian political parties. Their enmity is political ideology, not personal and both have the freedom to contest, for public endorsement. Simple.

Rahul contests from 2 places in 2019, Bhakths are like, ye, he is not sure of victory.

Something bhakths learnt greatly from their leader.
CM Modi opposed Aadhaar, PM Modi praises it.

WHEN MODI contested from 2 seats it was his first election for MP. Where as pappu had won more than twice from Amethi.
Main point is MODI is not the president of a party. BJP president is contesting from only one constituency where as pappu being the President is afraid of loosing so he contests from 2 seats. That is the difference and "afraid" of loosing is the main criteria for fighting from 2 seats

    Rahul's Winning margin in 2009 : 3.7 Lakh Votes
In 2014 : 1.07 Lakh ( Our Nalin Kumar won more than this margin) .
