Maria Coelho elected President of Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait

Kuwait, Apr 1: Agnesian Alumnae Kuwait (AAK), an all-women association consisting the ex-students of St Agnes institution of Mangaluru, elected the executive and management committee for the year 2019–2021 during its annual general body meeting (AGM) at Winners Restaurant, Salmiya recently.

A group of vibrant, dedicated and dynamic group of ladies committed to the mission of AAK, geared up to keep the AAK banner flying.

The meeting commenced with a welcome note by Jackie Alphonso, followed by a prayer song led by Jackie and Ivy Sequeira. The team also kept the spirit high by singing to the tunes of 'Heal the world'.

Outgoing dynamic president Felcita D’Souza thanked the members and her team for their support. Ivy Sequeira, treasurer, read out the statement of accounts and Rashmi Menezes, general secretary, briefed the gathering with the highlights, activities and contributions of the alumnae towards various needs, the prime one being AAK scholarship to financially deprived and deserving students identified by the college to pursue education at the alma mater (over 125 students have benefited since AAK's inception in 2005); in addition to contribution towards the new block during the centenary celebrations.

Jackie Alphonso introduced the new team and called out the list of new office-bearers for the term 2019-2021 with Maria Coelho taking over as president and Tressy Coutinho as vice-president. The newly elected team was further taken over by Maria and her team mates. The elected president in her inaugural address spoke of the insights into a women’s life and her attributes, and the role she plays in today’s society. The month of March being dedicated to women she highlighted that strong women do not have attitudes, they have standards. “They celebrate the past and plan for the future. Women fight for peace. Women believe in empowering women and empowering humanity,” she said.

This was followed by the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected members. They pledged that being strong women, they will support each other, set standards and think equal, build smart and innovate for change.

Scrumptious lunch was set up by Winners Restaurant followed by exciting games. The meeting concluded with the closing prayer and singing of the college anthem 'God is our Strength'.

The new team has invited all former Agnesians residing in Kuwait to come forward and register/renew their membership with the Alumnae Association.

I thank Felcita D'Souza and her team for keeping AAK active and vibrant for the past 2 years. I greatly appreciate and thank all the members of AAK for all the good work you do and for supporting the college in different ways especially towards the education of our students and also your generous contributions towards the centenary memorial block.
