Bengaluru: Businessman ends life after killing his wife and pet dog

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Apr 3: A businessman killed his wife and pet dog and killed himself by jumping out from the terrace of Annex Sycon Polaris Apartment at Sadashivanagar on Tuesday, April 2.

The deceased have been identified as Atul Upadhyay (58) and wife Mamata (53).

The couple, hailing from Mumbai, settled in the city 25 years ago. Atul was running a travel business in Ulsoor while Mamata was a homemaker.

The reason for the extreme step is believed to be the health condition of wife, who had advanced cancer.

According to a senior police officer, Rishabh, son of Atul's brother, stayed with the couple. They did not have children of their own. On Tuesday, Rishabh, an LLB student, had left for college when the incident took place.

The couple had an argument over some issue. In a fit of rage, Atul hit Mamata with dumbbells, killing her on the spot, police said.

Atul then took his dog to the terrace and flung it and jumped to his death. Both the dog and Atul died on the spot. The incident happened between 9 am and 9.30 am.

The police found a death note left by Atul stating that Mamata had advanced cancer, which had no treatment, and that there was no one to take care of them.

Rishabh confirmed this by saying the deceased were upset about Mamata's cancer.

They did not have any relatives except Rishabh in the city. Mamata's sister, who is in the US, has been informed.

He must not have taken the extreme step , must had control over his anger and emotions and could have faced the reality of life.

I FEEL PITY FOR THE DOG, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND, WHY HE TOOK AWAY THE LIFE OF DOG, AS THERE IS NO MUCH LOGIC LEFT WITH THAT DECISION. ANY WAY, HE KNOWS BETTER.

MAY ALL THE THREE SOULS REST IN PEACE.

@Rakesh d souza.mangalore I quite agree with you .There is a doubt here.Just tell me who will hit his sick wife with dumbbell after a quarrel ?(If at all )and write a note in that mind set, has the time to take the dog and jump down to kill himself?this death note should be prooven properly and body of the man too if not already given to ashes.Really she had cancer ?Which cant be cured ?I am sure son ahd some indifferences with couple over money ,they denied and result was first wife was killed and then man ,early morning ,then body was thrown down?with dog? before going to college?proove the fingerprints on dumbbells.May give both souls rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

To hit his wife who had advanced cancer with Dumb Bells?....
And then throw his pet dog to death from the balcony??
Must be 'some hearted' fellow ...difficult to explain but certainly not of the 'kind' category...
What all stories one hears in this world....
And we think only our life is complex filled with hardship...

A dog's love for its master is unconditional...it might have prevented so many fights earlier, just by its friendly presence in the house....it might have been loved more by the wife than by the husband.... , and the husband in a fit of hot-headed rage killed his wife and threw the dog...tragic.
Depression and uncontrolled anger are silent killers...
