Bengaluru: Kodigehalli underpass thrown open

Bengaluru, Apr 3 (DHNS): The long-delayed underpass at Kodigehalli, linking Vidyaranyapura to Sahakaranagar and Bellary Road, is finally open.

Now, people don't have to travel the additional 3 km to cross the Yelahanka rail line.

A joint project of the BBMP and South Western Railway, the underpass was sanctioned before 2013. Work started in 2014-15. But the project stalled due to delay in land acquisition. Some property owners had opposed.

Cost escalated to Rs 15 crore last year and the final cost will be known once the patchwork is completed.

Transport activist Sanjeev Dyamannavar said the project will benefit tens of thousands of people.

"This will help reduce congestion around Hebbal and Outer Ring Road. As direct connectivity from Vidyaranyapura, Tindlu, Kodigehalli, Virupakshapura, Doddabommasandra to Sahakar Nagar will improve," he said.
