Updates at 09.15am, IST, Mar 23

Mangalore, Mar 23: The tragedy which cast a gloom on a group of relatives with the drowning of Devin Walder (25) at Panambur Beach here on Sunday evening was further confounded with the recovery of the body of Oliver D'Sa (21) who had gone missing during the incident. His body was recovered late night on Sunday. The life guards Sharat, Jeevan and Sunil had tried to rescue them, but had failed to save Devin. Viay Fernandes was admitted to A J Hospital in critical condition.

Davin Walder and Oliver D'Sa

Devin had lost his father a few years ago. His mother Florine is a retired employee of Capitanio group of educational institutions and earns a living by making pickles. Oliver used to help her with this work, it is learnt.

Sunil, a member of the team of life guards, was injured in the incident. A little earlier to this tragedy, the life guards had saved Adarsh (20), a Bangalorean from the same spot, it is gathered.

I am a sailor who has completed 37 yers of sailing the high seas. I am still serving at sea. Many people do not understand the sea. There are specific areas on a sea shore where you can swim / surf/ wade etc. The Panambur beach is NOT MEANT for swimming or wading. An ideal sea for swimming should have a land gradient of not more than 6-8 degrees. Anything above this is dangerous. The risk level rises exponentially if one has taken a couple of drinks before entering water. I am really sad to read this article. May the souls of the young men rest in peace. I pray that the Lord of the sea has reserved special place for them in heaven.

It is very Tragic news. My heart goes for the bereaved person's family. Losing somebody for some senseless on the spur of the decison. Some people say that a life Guard should have been kept. Would it have deterred today's youngsters from going deeper who dont listen to their parents, what will they listen to an unknown guard. The onus lies on the youngsters who venture for such dangerous actvities. they should be fully aware from the perils of the sea..........Anyway God bless the departed and all

This is sad news. There should be lifeguards at the beach.Non swimmers should not be allowed to swim deep & be monitored. There should be coloured 'buouy' marking danger to non swimmers. If the non swimmers cross the limit siren should warn them.
