BJP Questions EC on Varun Hate Speech

PTI

New Delhi, Mar 23: BJP on Sunday night virtually questioned the EC advice to the party not to nominate Varun Gandhi as its candidate after the poll body declared Gandhi guilty of the hate speeches.

"It is an advice and we think it is not an order and we will certainly like to know from the EC that under what law has it advised us this," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

"We would like to examine the EC ruling and would come out with a structured response in a day or two," he said.

As per sources, the party is not convinced and may question the authority of the EC "to decide which candidate to be fielded in the fray".
