New Delhi, Mar 24: Delhi Police on Monday claimed to have cracked the two sensational murder cases of TV journalist Soumya Viswanathan, who was murdered in  September 2008, and IT executive Jigeesha Ghosh, who was killed earlier this month, with the arrest of four persons.

A senior police official said the recovery of weapon used in the murder of IT executive Jigeesha Ghosh (28) led to the solving of the murder of Soumya Viswanathan (27), a producer with a news channel.

"Four persons have been arrested, including one from Bulandshahar. They are involved in both the cases. Weapons and vehicles used in both the crimes have been recovered," the official said.

DCP South, HGS Dhaliwal, has said that initial investigations suggest that the murders were not pre-planned. The four are still being interrogated.

Robbery is said to be the motive behind the murders. The arrested persons have been identified as Ravi, Baljit, Amit and Ajay.

Soumya Viswanathan a producer with an English news channel was found murdered on the Nelson Mandela Marg in New Delhi on September 30, 2008, while returning from the office in her own Maruti Zen.

Jigeesha Ghosh, a resident of Vasant Vihar in south Delhi, had left her home for office in Noida on Tuesday but did not return home. Her body was discovered by Faridabad police three km from Surajkund on March 19.

The preliminary post-mortem report suggested that Ghosh was smothered to death. The assailants had used Ghosh's ATM card to withdraw money from the State Bank of India ATM in Mahipalpur besides using it to buy certain items from Sarojini Nagar market, a police official said.

The arrested men would be taken to court later today, said a senior police officer, adding that one member of the gang was absconding.
