Mangalore, Mar 24:
Ladies Social Service League celebrated family day, by honouring its office-bearers who are serving the society, at St Antony Ashram near Valencia on Monday, March 23.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore honoured 14 members and office-bearers of the League at the said function.

In his address delivered later, the Bishop appreciated the ladies for doing exemplary work in the field of social service, in the area of upliftment of the poor people etc  but noted, they have failed to create a politician or a leading officer in the Indian Administrative Service from the community. He advised them to concentrate on ensuring that the children get higher education.

"We had no one to approach; there was no one to listen to our grievances, when our community was facing grave problems. So, we need to create such persons who will lend an ear to our difficulties and extend protection to us," he said.

Vicar general Dennis M Prabhu was also present at the function. Octavia Albuquerque, president of the League, was felicitated by the Bishop, for her achievements and was blessed by him.

The Bishop also distributed prizes to the winners in the lucky draw.

Leena Fernandes, secretary, vice-president Madonna Fernandes, Jessy Towers, treasurer and others were present. Zeta Farias, joint secretary, conducted the programme.

It is a nice feeling to see our older generation is so content with their day to day activities in helping the poor and doing such a great deal of charitable social work. Like The Most Rev. Bishop of Mangalore noted in his speech, some may thank you and some may blame you but what God sees is the good deeds you have done and will bless you.

This is so true even in our daily lives it is so gratifying to help someone in your neighborhood or Parish. Seeing the latest distasteful coverage of Mangalore, it is very consoling to see this piece of pleasant news. Thank you all who made this felicitation possible, especially the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and the Vicar general Dennis M Prabhu for your precious time.
