Karkala: Intercollegiate Fest ‘Anandotsava—09’ Held at NMAM Institute of Technology

Karkala, Mar 26: ‘Anandotsava-09’, a prestigious annual intercollegiate cultural festival for engineering students was organized by NMAM Institute of Technology (a unit of NITTE education trust), an autonomous institute under VTU, Belgaum, on Tuesday March 24 and Wednesday March 25.

The fest was inaugurated by renowned academician and artist Dr Arunachalam Kumar. 
 
Dr Kumar opined that it was at this age that youngsters can experiment with innovative ideas and suggested that students maintain their enthusiasm. He also advised the students to enjoy the two-day fest by interacting with students of other colleges.

Students from more than 30 colleges across the state participated in 19 events held at six different venues on the campus. Food and accommodation was provided to students from far-off places.  The events lined up for the first day were ‘mehendi’, ‘rangoli’, ‘on-the-spot painting’, pencil sketching, and cartooning. Mime, ‘mad ads’, ‘anthakshari’, fashion show, and ‘JAM’ were the onstage events.

The most challenging event was the debate competition as students were judged on their elocutionary and oratory skills. The topic was announced to students just half an hour prior to the programme and it was ‘Are Indians Courteous to Fellow Indians.’ 

A student from SJEC bagged the first place. The mime event had many participating groups from different colleges with many interesting topics such as ragging, peer pressure, patriotism, adverse effects of cell phones, and the recent pub incident in Mangalore.

‘Mad Ads’ were the best example for a pool of creative and innovative ideas. ‘Mehendi’ and ‘rangoli’ were the two colourful events.

Pencil sketching, cartooning, and painting were held on the lawn, which provided a pleasant environment for the participants. NMAM Institute of Technology bagged first place in pencil sketch.

The Anthakshari event was hosted by Dr Shenoy and was the most dazzling event of the day as even the audience got a chance to sing. Canara College got the first prize.

The second day saw events such as solo dance, eastern solo, group dance, dumb charades, and quiz.                                                                

It was a remarkable platform for all the students to show their talents. Suraj, a first year student from NMAM Institute of Technology says “It was a great time for me, as it is a break. And I even got a chance to interact with other college students and make friends.”

Whereas Akshatha, a third year Information Science student from KVG, Sullia, says ‘I am having great fun here. And I am happy that I will be participating in the group dance competition. I hope to bag some prize for my college.”
