Mangalore, Mar 26: Student’s Islamic Organization of India (SIO) national president Suhail K K said on Thursday March 26 that students need to indulge in social affairs of the society. He said that denying political freedom in campuses is against democratic values.

Addressing media persons at the Hotel Goldfinch, he said that a campus is the breeding centre of democracy. “It is quite unfortunate that campus politics has turned out to be destructive in nature. SIO views student politics as an effective tool for establishing a democratic environment and creative discussions and debates on various social issues”, said Suhail.

In reply to a query Suhail said that the Raghavan Committee Report on the menace of ragging in educational institutions should be implemented. “SIO will take measures to curb the menace of ragging in campuses. It has been conducting various programmes since the past 25 years against such evils. The organization has not been confining itself to being an Islamic organization”, he added.

Suhail pointed out that the SIO strongly disagreed with moral policing. At the same time it refers to a romantic relationship before the marriage as an illegal activity and opposes alcoholism. “Terrorism and other untoward incidents have nothing to do with religion. It is all about political gain”, he said.

“SIO activists and supporters contest elections not on glamour and money power but on clear ideological grounds. The organization has proved strong enough to create a breakthrough in student politics and to be the pulse of the campus and student community”, said Suhail.

Regarding the global economic slump, he said thousands of youths and students have become jobless. “The Milton Friedman model of capitalism has come to an end. The recession is an obvious result of a financial system built on reckless speculation and interest. It is high time the new generation thought of an economic system based on Islamic principles which is against speculation and interest”, he added.

SIO state president Shoukath Ali K, state west region president Shabeer Ahmed, secretary Ifthikar Ahmed, public relations secretary Mansoor C H, and Nisar Ahmed were present at the press meet.

How do a good student form without politics? A good student is someone who reacts to anti-social elements, what you are blaming is criminal politics... SIO is active politically in all campus where it is present... and it uses this freedom to fight evils like ragging and ill steps by institutions.

Politically neutral students will in no way participate in nation building. We want the students to be active in all spheres. This is the part of education. During the freedom struggle the students have played a great role. they where politically active. Individuals won''t make revolutions!

Students main mission to study hard, get good grades and be a productive memeber of the society. The student organizations based on the religious principles are deterent to education and serve no useful purpose. Islam is very good religion but these students may get carried away.

Respected Vincent sir, I was really shocked regarding your statement “SIO is another face of simi..... SIO should be banned as soon as possible.” I want to clarify some queries,
    1) How do the taught came to your mind that Sio is another face of simi?
    2) What the proof do you have for the given statement ?
    3) Whats the reason for banning this SIO organization? Since 26 years we are trying to make unity of the students, peace in the nation, upliftment of the students.

Even Indian Intelligent Bureau given the statement that SIO is not the part of SIMI. One small request to you sir, Whenever you give comment on any organization, please collect all the truth information regarding the organization. And I also request you to get the correct, believable details regarding SIO.

University/college campus are for studying and make a good citizen. There are ample opportunities to good social/political work outside the campus. ABVP Student wing has killed even a VC of a particular university. Students have crated chaos in certain campuses for silly reason. Therefore, any student association affiliated to political parties should be banned forthwith from the campuses.

Mr Suhail, the main purpose of students going to college is for studying and not full time politics and part time studies. There is ample scope for creative discussions and debates on various social issues, if the students take part in the cocuricuilar activities in the cmpus. No need to get politics into it. Also no need to get jobless goons of the political parties to settle campus issues.

How can political organizations based on religion, fascism and communalism be democratic? It is best that such organizations are KEPT OUT of College Campuses and Educational Institutions. They are free to preach their political and religious ideologies elsewhere.

I am of the view that politics should not be included in college and educational institutions. We can see what is happening in Kerala. Every now and then there are political clashes, ABVP, SFI, MSF, KSU. I dont know how many student unions are there in Kerala. The politicians send their children abroad or out of Kerala to study so that their children get good education and live the rest of the students to suffer in "GOD'S OWN COUNTRY".
