Updates: Five Chota Shakeel Men Arrested Including Interpol Sought Rasheed Malabari

Mangalore, Mar 30: Ajay Kumar Singh, director general of police (DGP), said that a conspiracy related to the upcoming elections was foiled with the arrest of five people for their alleged links with the underworld.
Briefing media persons in the city on Monday March 30, Singh said, “The western range special squad and intelligence staff arrested five including Rasheed Malabari, a notorious criminal wanted by Interpol. They were planning the murder or kidnap of a political leader under directions from underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s right hand Chota Shakeel”.
Three of the accused, Sayaf T A (25) resident of Kanyadka near Chattanjal in Kasaragod, Mohammad Hasim (28) resident of Pandyal Valappu near Nellikunnu in Kasaragod, and Ibrahim alias Sahib Ibrahim (27) resident of Kaup Padu near government ice plant, in Udupi district, were arrested near Talapady checkpost on Sunday March 29.
“Following information obtained from them, Rasheed Malabari alias Double (38), hailing from undivided Dakshina Kannada district and now settled in Thana district of Maharashtra, and Sahil Ibrahim, a resident of Baneligaon also in Thana district in Maharashtra, were nabbed. A pistol and Rs 19,000 was recovered from them,” said Singh.
“Rasheed is wanted in five murder cases including one in Malaysia and is on the Interpol scanner. He went missing 13 years ago and was living some place outside India. He came to India nine months ago via Nepal”, said the DGP adding that his case file which was closed will no be reopened following his capture.
All the five accused were produced in court and have been remanded to judicial custody till Monday April 13.
The DGP announced Rs 2 lac as a cash award for the police personnel who were involved in this case.
Gopal Hosur, inspector general of police, western range, Dr Subrahmanyeshwara Rao, superintendent of police, and R Dileep, additional superintendent of police, were also present at the press meet.
