Mangalore, Apr 9: Maundy Thursday was observed by the faithful with reverence in parishes across the city on Thursday April 9.
The fervour of Maundy Thursday has been prevalent in the diocese over the past many centuries.
The Holy Mass to commemorate the Eucharist institution of was observed symbolically by the priest by breaking bread and sharing it among the altar boys. The ritual of washing the apostle’s feet as done by Jesus, in order to convey humbleness, was performed by priests during the ceremony.
The faithful flocked to churches in large numbers, to be a part of the congregation observing Maundy Thursday.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza offered the Eucharistic Mass at Rosario Cathedral here on Thursday evening, along with many priests.
The Holy Mass was attended by a large number of parishioners and faithful. Bishop D’Souza also washed the feet of 12 disciples (altar boys) and distributed bread during the ceremony.
It was the will of Jesus to be ever present in the form of the Eucharist, because he loved the whole of mankind without bias. He is present at the tabernacle at the church, to listen to all those who knock and pour their unceasing prayers. His love for humanity is exemplified on Maundy Thursday by instituting the Holy Sacrament of Eucharist.
