M'lore: Mandd Sobhann Announces `Life-time Achievement Award' for Wilfy Rebimbus

Mangalore, Apr 10: Mandd Sobhann announced in a press meet held on Friday April 10 at the Press Club here, that it would be holding the very first Global Konkani Music Awards ceremony at Kalaangann in the city on May 10, to give away awards in five categories.
Apart from these awards, Wilfy Rebimbus will be conferred with the 'Konkani Music Life-time Achievement Award' for his unparalleled contribution to Konkani music. Rebimbus will receive one lac rupees in cash apart from a gold medal and a trophy.
The music awards are being given in five categories, ie., Best Female Singer - 2008, Best Male Singer - 2008, Best Music Composer - 2008, Best Lyricist - 2008 and Best Music Album - 2008. These awards carry cash component of Rs 25,000 each along with a trophy.
Marian Lazarous D'Souza from Kuwait has sponsored these cash awards.
Mandd Sobhann has received 103 entries in all, for these awards. An eminent panel of judges is involved with the short-listing of three names for each of these categories. From among these nominees, the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, Mandd Sobhann said.
Eminent play back singer Usha Uthup will give away the awards. Fr Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary and founder of 'Sandesha' will be the chief guest of the function.
Mandd Sobhann Gurkaar Eric Ozario, president Louis J Pinto, Co-ordinator Stany Alvares, Secretary Rony Crasta and sponsor of the five cash awards Marian Lazarus D'Souza were present at the press conference.
