M'lore: Poet, Writer, Kannada Activist and Politician B M Idinabba No More

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 11: Veteran poet, litterateur, politician and Kannada activist B M Idinabba, considered an authority in several subjects, breathed his last early morning on Saturday April 11 in a private hospital in the city. He was 90.

Idinabba made a mark in the Kannada literary field and had the capacity to recite poems and speak on subjects without needing any advance preparations. He was a three-time MLA from the Congress Party. His wife died about six months back.

Idinabba, besides drawing respect for his literature, has a large fan following in the state for the initiatives he took as the chairman of Kannada Development Authority (KDA). During his tenure as the head of KDA, he had aggressively pursued the objective of earning a place of prominence for Kannada language and Kannadigas. He took up the issue of jobs for Kannadigas, with various departments and agencies to ensure that Kannadigas get jobs in all the offices and industries located within Karnataka. Idinabba also had worked to introduce Kannada in the Madrassas of the state.

Born on September 17, 1920, Idinabba had carved out a special place for himself in the history of the state. He was ill since the last several months and had been and out of hospitals several times. He is survived by four daughters and two sons. In his death, Karnataka has lost a worthy son.

I am very much sadnded about the Silence of The "Kannada Sanga'S"of Gulf countries, who are always forefront in all Kannada activities. For the reasons best known to them, these organizations are in no mood ,even to send a simple condolence message through DAIJI.B.M.Iddinabba is a Kannada poet, writter and above all a true lover of Kannada language.

A simple role model who rose above caste, community and convention....a rare persona whose sane influence will be sorely missed. He was a frequent visitor to KMC in the seventies and I recollect, he had once, on the spot, composed and recited a poem eulogizing Dr TMA Pai during a college function held in the latter's honour.

Loved and respected by top of the literary and political leaders of Karnataka to the grass root Congress party worker. His guidance to younger generation and his strong will and determation to see a strong and developed community, his long lasting service to the poor and needy, will be long remembered.

B.M. Iddinabba has contributed a lot to Dakshna Kannada District. He was a poet as well as a leader of true spirit. He always use to read his "Aikyagana" with his "kanchina kanta" during the functions he use to attend. He did not reach higher levels in politics because he was not a Crorepathi!
