Jaipur, Apr 11: A 15-year-old student of class X was driven to committing suicide due to alleged harassment by her mathematics teacher.

The girl, a resident of Kotara village under Neem Ka Thana police station area in Sikar district, was found hanging by her uncle on Thursday night. She was then rushed to a local hospital, from where she was referred to SMS Hospital, Jaipur. While undergoing treatment, she died early on Friday morning here. Her family members have lodged an FIR against the teacher with Neem Ka Thana police station.

According to the family, the girl - Varsha Bairwa - was a Class X student of SBR Mahila Vidhyalaya. "Her maths teacher, Mahesh Jakhad, used to harass her over which Varsha was very depressed," said Babulal Bairwa, the girl's maternal grandfather.

Babulal alleged that Jakkad made her stay in the classroom even after school was over. "He threatened to fail her in the examination when she refused to cooperate. He also used to call up at the girl's home and insist on talking to her on the pretext of teaching her math lessons," Babulal added.

When the family came to know about it, Varsha’s uncle went to the school and complained to the principal. "The principal warned Mahesh after receiving the complaint. But the teacher threatened the girl's uncle with dire consequences after the latter returned from the school," said a family member.

Samdar Singh, Neem Ka Thana police station in charge, said that due to the repeated harassment, the girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room. "We have lodged a case and investigation is on. The teacher will be arrested soon," Singh added.
