Mangalore: A Memorable Paradela Nite Revives Music Luster on Easter

Mangalore, Apr 12: Paradela, the popular music troupe of singers of St Francis Xavier’s Parish, Bejai, staged their tenth Paradela Nite on Sunday April 12 at St Agnes Special School Grounds, Mangalore. The musical concert was staged in aid of St Francis Kannada Medium School, Bejai, the Diocesan medical fund and the promotion of talents of poor students. Over 120 musicians of the parish including the city’s popular Konkani singers enthralled the audience with their scintillating music.
The Chief Guests for the evening were Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza and University College lecturer and Diocesan Pastoral Council Secretary Steven Quadros Permude.
Speaking at the occasion, the Bishop announced that Rs 1.12 crore had been collected towards diocesan medical fund so far.
The co-founders of Paradela handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000 each towards the diocesan medical fund and St Francis Xavier’s Higher Primary School.
In his address to the gathering, Steven Quadros proposed to Paradela to set up a hostel facility in the city for the benefit of rural students and working members, a blood bank and to join hands with diocesan authority to empower the community.
A Konkani DVD - ‘Comedy Koroz’ of comedian, playwrite and director Nellu Permannur was also released.
Paradela’s co-founder Joel Pereira, singer Gratian D’Souza of Kuwait and Ocean Kids’ choreographer Pramod were felicitated on the occasion.
The evening witnessed performances from various artistes. Music, dance and drama added to the air of celebration. Ace comedians Dolla, Jerry Rasquinha and Charles Sequeira, who made a come back after many years entertained the audience with rib tickling mimicry and jokes.
Also present at the event were Prakash Brags, Gratian D’Souza, Rovin D’Souza, Fr Navin D’Souza and Oswald Valento.
The Paradela music troupe was conceptualized at Bejai parish 35 years ago with the promising singers of that time. It made significant contributions to the community and the society with their philanthropic activities and continues to do their yeomen service both in the Gulf and back home.
