M’lore: Advocates Take to Streets Urging Govt to Hand over Naushad Case to CBI

Mangalore, Apr 13: The Mangalore Bar Association on Monday April 12 urged the state government to hand over advocate Naushad Kashimji’s murder case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Staging a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office under the banner of the Mangalore Bar Association, advocates condemned the murder of their colleague. Addressing the demonstrators, S P Chengappa, president of the association alleged that there has been an increased threat to the lives of the advocates in the city in the last few months. But the police department is totally negligent in this regard.
"Many of the advocates have received threat from the miscreants. Even though, we have brought this to the notice of the police department, they have not shown any interest in this regard. Naushad’s murder is a consequence of negligence of the department. The miscreants have now threatened to kill one of our colleagues within the next seven day," he alleged.
Chengappa claimed that the advocate community is under apprehension after threats, attempt to murder and assault on them. The police department has failed to provide protection to the community. They have not apprehended any of the prime accused of assault case, he complained. He also pointed out that the association would continue to protest till the real culprits of the murder are arrested. A state-wide demonstration would be conducted if the state government fails to hand over the case to CBI, he added.
Police Out-post in Court Premises
Submitting a memorandum to the deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, the association urged him to set up a police outpost in court premises in order to provide protection to the advocates.
General secretary Ishwar N Kottary, treasurer HV Raghavendra, vice-president Elizabeth Neeliyara, joint secretary Anitha Kini K were also present.
