Udupi, Apr 13: The coastal residents of undivided Dakshina Kannada district are geared-up to celebrate Bisu Parba, on Tuesday April 14.  It’s being celebrated in a unique way in Tulunadu and across Kerala.

The nature was also found at its best with trees blooming flowers during Bisu Parba and also an occasion of solar based Yugadi that is widely celebrated by communities at large in the Tulunadu.

It’s also an occasion of Vaisak, thanking the Mother Earth for abundant produce and to share the happiness by distributing the sweets among the family members.  As per Tulunadu tradition, people share the sweets and savour payasam at lunch, in a way praying for peace and happiness for one more year.  People also don new clothes, a sign of hope in the new year by shunning the ill fortunes of past.

Various religious rituals and special puja will be held in temples on this auspicious occasion of Bisu Parba, a significant celebrations in Tulunadu.

Bisu Parba used to coincide with the SSLC results till the change in examinations schedule a few years ago.  It would be an added occasion to celebrate the success during Ugadi (solar-movement based) in the past.

I understand that the Vishu Flowers (Yellow Flowers or in Malyalam "Konnapu") have medicinal value. Any input? And, manner of administration (eg. infusion of flowers in hot water and drink as tea... what about the stems and the leaves)? Thanks (Email: romeo-dsilva@hotmail.com)

Bisu-It is a time to celebrate. Unfortunately I could not visit my hometown, Kasaragod, during Bisu this year. I will have to content with talking to my friends and relatives over the phone and sending mails. We plan to celebrate here in Bangalore in a small way, but I really miss my home and hometown where celebrations would be at its peak.

Anyways, God bless us all with peace and happiness. Let Hindus, Muslims and Christians (and other religions) live in peace and harmony. Let us be Indians first.
