Udupi: Why Does Oscar Insist on Having Wife Blossom Always by his Side?

Udupi: Why Does Oscar Insist on Having Wife Blossom Always by his Side?
Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, April 25: People have seen since long, that unlike other politicians, union minister and Rajyasabha member Oscar Fernandes does not prefer to attend meetings and ceremonies without having his wife Blossom Fernandes by his side. As a result, almost every one in the twin-districts knows Blossom, who is seen on the dais of every programme in which Oscar is present.

The fact that the couple is glued to each other in their public appearances and they are rarely seen individually had become the fodder for stories brought out by several newspapers, which chose to come out with theories born out of their own imaginations It is said, there is a woman behind every successful man, although some mischievous people have added "telling him that he is wrong", to this adage. By the way, Blossom is always seen by the side of Oscar, not behind him.

As if to put to rest all the speculations going on about this phenomenon since the last so many years, Oscar revealed the secret behind it. Repeatedly mouthing slogans about providing 50% reservation to women does not produce any results, we have to practice what we preach. To ensure that women get equal status along with men, I always take with me my wife Blossom whenever attending public programmes," Oscar said.

Oscar also advised the activists of the party and the supporters of the Congress Party to attend meetings, functions etc., in the company of their wives. This automatically transforms your words into practice, he added.

Only time will tell as to whether the people for whom this advice was meant, will follow it in all earnestness.  It is felt, many might not fall in line with their leader Oscar, knowing fully well that their better halves make far better orators than themselves.

Successful man is the one who earns more than his wife could spend. I don’t think Oscar falls in that category.

Accompanying him everywhere fine.In western culture spouse status is equal in official functions, but ours is unique traditional society. But accompanying him on the dias every time everywhere, is embarassment to organisers. A person who has no official engagement need not be on the dias. and it is a cause of envy too!

Congratulations!! Great couple!! 1. Hats off to Oscar for giving such recognition to his wife, Blossom 2. Faithfully follows what he advised others. 3. This reminds me of Smt. Indira Gandhi who was always with her father, Nehru and just imagine how much knowledge she earned. 4. Well, Blossom, learn all tricks and knowledge of politics, who knows tomorrow you may become a good politician. Good luck.

We need gutsy leaders like George Fernandes who can stand up for the rights of minrotities rather than being a mere rubber stamp to the party. Oscar is just like putting old wine in new bottle.

Its fine to have your wife/husband besides you even while attending official functions. But taking a place on the dias wherein your presence is not required should be decided by the individual. If she needs to accompany him wherever he goes, why doesnt she attend cabinet meetings or why was she not next to him while taking oath as minister?

To have or Not to have - his wife along with him at his side - it''s ones own choice and decision. There''s no such condition laid down - NOT TO HAVE WIFE ON DIAS ON PUBLIC MEETINGS - anywhere in the world for a person appointed by the public for public office and governance. It''s only those who are pained by jealousy and unhappiness in their personal lives - bring about such evil topics and discussions. Such a person and/or people should ask themselves - what do I really want.

Mrs Oscar is seen in all the official functions creating embarassment to the organisers. She should stop this practise of sharing the dias with the union minister by considering the dignity of the nation. Mr Osacar may be the minister but this lady is just an ordinary person for the us. Very irritating to see her in official meetings along with the dignitories.

Oscar can be given special prize for having achived an unique distinction of having slept through out the term of being an MP from Udupi and done nothing. It is indeed a shame on the face every South Kanara resident, we dont honour person who has sacrificed his life to fulfil a hundred year dream of having railway line from Mumbai to Mangalore Mr George Ferandes, but welcome a chela of the present de facto leader of country who has done nothing .

Whatever one says I too would like that my wife joins me in various functions as an equel partner. Without a wifes suport you are no where. She looks after the kids and the housework and keeps everything intact otherwise the husband could not achive the position where he is. When the chance comes for an occasion then the husband wants to share his succes with his wife.

What is wrong with this. Obama is also proud to show his wife Michele. Although I am a Jagmohan Singh(PM) fan, I was astonished to see him walking in front of his wife to cast his vote for the election. In western world one lets his wife in the front except with official state reception. Waler Vaz n

So many times he won and done nothing for his constituency. where I used to live we were thinking that as a representive he would do something good for the society . Well he used to show his face only when there was a election . Although am not a beliver of choosing a candidate based upon his caste and creed , rather to have a honest candidate who do the job . But still in the present political conditions no political party bothered to give a minority person a chance in election

I do agree the suggestion of Mr.Oscarji. But all women are not alike. The size of few fingers is different. Hence it is upto ladies to join their husbands voluntarily. And especially present world men have to compromise with their wives for the survival of their marriage. Only those who are thinking equality can support the cause of oscarji

Though they may be a good couple, it would look odd to be together always in each & every functions. Imagine, if all dignitories accomany their wives & be seated, in the dias, it would look like mass marriage on stage.

All men are one and the same. They want their wife to be part of their accomplishments not the otherway. Imagine Blossom being a politician and Oscar being a part of her success accompanying her to every function, that is the time when gender equality will fruitify.

I donot agree that Oscar thinks of equal status to women but she decides everything about him. I remember when oscarji was a chief guest at convocation at St.Johns medical college ,few years ago only VIPs could sit on dais as they have to wear Graduation gown.Mrs. Blosom could have sat in the first few rows in the auditorium ,but preferred to sit in dais with her husband without the graduation gown (Obviously she could not be given a gown)on her which looked awkwared.

It’s nothing special, a cheap ‘poli-trick’, as most of our politicians do, slowly promoting ‘maggibai’ into politics after him.

Yes. After many years of sleep at Parliament he indeed need a person to wake him up. He is a person of the type "Not done any bad to anyone, Not done any good to society". People elected and sent him to Parliament expecting something good from him to the locality. Now you have noticed Blossom is sticking to him where ever he goes. . On an average he is a good person but not a GOOD LEADER that Udupi needs... Thank you.
