Moodbidri, Apr 26:
The Dr MV Shetty Institute of Technology in Thodar, managed by Dr MV Shetty Memorial Trust, Mangalore, celebrated its first annual day at the college auditorium on Saturday April 25.

Addressing students and staff, Prof K Balaveera Redddy, former vice-chancellor, Vishweshwaraya Technological University, Belgaum, said that the institutions should be student-centric but not teacher-centric.

He added that residential campuses would help in academic developments of students.

“Infrastructure available on campus should be utilized by students properly. Laboratories and library should be kept open till midnight to help make the institute a centre of excellence”, said Prof Reddy.

He opined that results, placement, and research activity are the three criteria that help identify the best campus.

Prof Reddy said “The foreign institutions are entering Indian cities. They will grab all our students if we fail to provide them quality education and better facilities. Students should be taught at least one foreign language other than English. A minimum of five to six certificate programmes such as leadership programmes, marketing, and communication skills, will enhance the standard of students”.

Prof Reddy said that the college managements should try to introduce digital classrooms, online examinations, and wi-fi campuses in order to provide more information for students. Asking students to mould their careers through designing programmes and plans during college life, he added that they need not to bother about recession since it is a short-term threat.

Dr M Ramgopal Shetty, secretary of the trust, presided over the function. Principal Prof K G Chandrashekara, Dr Hima Urmila Shetty, and Dr Jayaram Hegde were present.
