Mangalore, Apr 27: Renowned theatre personality and director Kasargod Chinna has been chosen for the 'Sangeeta Nataka Academy Award' to be conferred on him at the ceremony to be held at Kannur in the month of May, said the office-bearers of Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Academy on Sunday April 26.
The award is being conferred on the veteran artiste of Kasargod origin, for his achievements in field of theatre and this is the first such honour for the theatre artistes hailing from the border region. He will be awarded along with other 17 other artistes and achievers from Kerlala connected with various fields, they said.
In the past, awards had been conferred on great artistes like Kayyara Kinnanna Rai for literature, Dr Sheni Gopalkrishna Bhat for Yahshgana and 'Chande' exponent Chipparu Krishnaiah Ballal.
In addition, the Academy has also given the 'Guruvandana' award to Yakshagana artiste Madhooru Ganapati Rao and Mridangam Vidhwan K Babu Rai.
Kasargod Chinna had also worked as an active member of the Academy earlier. In addition the acting and direction, he also set the stage for his various plays.
He has successfully established the children’s theatre known as 'Ranga Chinnari' and directed several plays for them, they said.
