Mangaluru, Jun 1: Police personnel attached to Bajpe station have succeeded in arresting three persons who have been accused of illegal cattle transportation. The arrests were made on Friday May 31.

The arrested men were Muhammed Shariff (33), son of Mohiuddin Kunhi from Mundelu House in Handelu near Mijar, Latish (44), son of Vittal Poojary from Shibrikere Vasu Kinnibettu in Thenka Yedapadavu, and Monaka (42) alias Ibrahim Khaleel, a resident of Handelu. Another accused, identified as Arif, is absconding.

Noticing that a pick-up vehicle bearing registration No. KA19-AA 1106 was moving about suspiciously at high speed, some Bajrang Dal activists had followed it. They stopped the vehicle near Yedapadavu Junction. They saw that a cow concealed under the cover of a tarpaulin was being transported. The accused ran away from the spot.

The Bajpe police were informed. Police personnel under the guidance of assistant commissioner of police, Srinivas Gowda, and deputy commissioner of police, Hanumantharaya, rushe to the spot, took the pick-up truck into possession and handed over the cattle tothe care of the cow shelter being run at Maravoor. A case was registered in this connection in Bajpe police station.
