Kasargod:  Possibility of LTTE Cadres Sneaking in: Coast on High Alert

Kasargod, Apr 28: Intelligence reports have warned the government about the chances of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres, who are engaged in a losing battle with the Srilankan Army, might sneak into the states along the west coast,  as the Srilankan army has been surging ahead, wresting the areas earlier held by the LTTE. As the total decimation of LTTE is a certainty and their last bastion might fall apart any time now, they are left with no other option but to flee from the island nation, it is being analyzed.

In fact, the intelligence has been sounding the state governments on the above possibility since the last few months, after Srilankan army started making inroads into the LTTE-held territory. In tune with the recommendations, the Coastal Security Force and the police department have taken necessary steps to keep a vigil on the coast. It may be recalled, the state policemen had conducted extensive enquiries after the fishermen had reported sighting of unidentified ships along the coastline a number of times.

All the strategic points of arrival like airports, railway stations and other important centres are being provided with security and round-the-clock vigilance. The police forces have said that they cannot totally rule out the possibility of the LTTE terrorists getting foothold in Kerala by disguising themselves as commoners. A few months ago, the policemen had discovered that kerosene had been supplied to the LTTE through Kerala coasts.

Thousands of litres of kerosene had been delivered to the LTTE cadres at the Bekal port near here. The movement of ships about which nothing is known, have also increased the apprehensions of the Kerala police.
