Udupi, Jun 2: “The fire mishaps that are reported in the district are highest in the state. More than 364 mishaps are reported in the last five months. Fire brigade vehicles have rushed to the spots from Udupi, Kundapur, Karkal and Malpe divisions and have conducted operations,” said assistant fire brigade officer Nijaguna M S.
He was speaking in fire extinguishing demonstration and seminar on precautions held by Kaup JCI in Pangala Vidyavardhaka high school here on May 30.
“It is necessary for people to be careful about fire mishaps that occur around us. Those should not be neglected for any reason. It is possible to rescue people, save environment and property if precautions are taken immediately after the mishap,” he said. Fire service officials and staff were felicitated under ‘salute the silent worker’ programme of JCI India after the demonstration.
The officials informed the students in the demonstration about the factors that cause the mishap, actions that people can take during the mishap, various ways of extinguishing fire by water, when can the citizens and students contact the fire brigade, etc.
Fire brigade department assistant officer M Gopal, Surya Prakash, Mumbai’s entrepreneur Govinda Shetty, Pangala Vidyavardhaka Sangha president Bhojaraj Shetty, donor Suresh Rao, headmistress Aruna Bai, JCI former zonal president Rakesh Kunjoor, Sudheer Shetty, Dinaker Shetty, Kaup JCI former president Pravin Gurme and others were present.
