Udupi, Apr 28: "In the first phase of Lok Sabha election in the state, the voting percentage had been very low. This situation should not repeat itself in the second phase. People of Udupi district should come out and vote in large numbers and become a model for the entire state," pleaded law, justice and parliamentary affairs minister and BJP state spokesperson Suresh Kumar.

He was addressing the concluding meeting of the party's publicity campaign organized here on Monday April 27.

In his address, BJP district president Kota Srinivas Poojary said, the BJP has been drawing good response everywhere in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency and expressed the confidence that the party candidate Sadanand Gowda will win with a margin of over a lac of votes. He criticized Jayaprakash Hegde, Congress candidate, for demanding for the handing over Padmapriya death case to CBI and demanded that the case pertaining to the murder of Rajaram Servegar that occurred when Hegde was a minister, be handed over to the CBI.

BJP candidate Sadanand Gowda said, constituent parties of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) have been falling apart one by one and the Congress Party is being left to fend for itself all alone. This party can never muster a majority. NDA is the only alliance which can provide able and competent rule, he asserted.

Minister Dr V S Acharya, legislators Raghupati Bhat, Mukhyamantri Chandru, Lalaji Mendon, municipal president Dinkar shetty, zilla panchayat former president B N Shankar Poojary, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, Sudhakar Shetty, Yashpal Suvarna, Mahesh Thakur, Kiran Kumar, Udaykumar Shetty Manjula Nayak, Andar Deviprasad Shetty, small screen actress Madhushree and others were present. BJP town unit president Raghavendra Kini presented the programme.

The people of Udupi are really sick of voting for Congress for so many years and even though the candidate from our constituency Mr. Oscar Fernandes became a Union Minister, all Congress MPs did absolutely nothing for our development. Our roads have been bad for years, no bus-stands, water problems, poor condition of National and State Highways, ports, poor condition of our railway station, transport, rural roads and connectivity, sea erosion, etc - problems galore. Manipal seems to have developed on its own. Whether it is BJP or Congress widening the roads (including Udupi-Manipal Road, Kinnimulky-Diana circle, etc) and building better bus-stands (city, service and govt), the point is that it is happening only after 60 years of independence. There are also other new developments during this period like the new CMC (City Municipal Council)complex in Manipal, Vented dams at Marne and Kemthur villages, Solid Waste Management Plant at Alevoor, BusVoice system, Storm drains in the city, etc Yet we are only talking of whether we should vote for a Poojary, Bunt, Gowda and stuff like that.

Road widening projects, dump yard shift to Alevoor, DC complex in Manipal - all are definitely BJP achievements. All Udupi people remember photos of Congress protesting shifting of dump yard by sleeping against construction equipment on road. It is funny people attributing this to a babu (then DC). He may have enabled work but if not for BJP MLA and ministers determination and putting pressure in Bangalore to get the funds released none of this work would have happened. I know first hand how much effort has been put by Acharya and Bhat to get these projects cleared at Bangalore. They tirelessly worked even when Dharam Singh govt was ruling the state. Your political views may differ but one should give where credit is due for these projects.

Acharya and Gowda are just showing the picture to general public that since 1947 its all BJP has done and built India..... There are few more like Anakumar,Palemar, these people have just executed the pending work of congress people.... they have not done any new job nor they have taking any kind of iniitative...when congress was in power I used to experience only few strikes in mangalore or in karnataka, but since BJP has taken the power its like daily fight, daily murder, daily crime, and so on.........

Dear Mr Ravindra, You have forgotten the Mine filled lorries which have raped the NH17 roads .. While I welcome the infrastructure development that might have happened inside UDUPI..I also wonder how much social progress has been made .. I am particularly interested to know if Brahmans and Non Brahmans are having meals together inside the Udupi temple..or we have to wait for a couple of centuries for this to change?

Ravindra Poojari, don''t be illusioned about development of Udupi. BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat has nothing to do with that. Credit for Ambagilu-Udupi and Kalsanka-Manipal road should not go to any party. The credit should go to V Ponnuraj, the then Udupi deputy commissioner. He is the one who initiated all these projects and implemented them despite pressure from various quarters including the MLA himself. It was when he was DC that even the Kinnimulky-Taluk office road was sanctioned which has now been completed. Raghupati did only one thing, ie, to transfer Ponnuraj just before the last Assembly elections and then take credit for himself. Karavali Cross-Manipal road is part of Malpe-Molakalmur highway and it has nothing to do with MLA fund. Before commenting be informed as what is the jurisdiction of an MLA and the DC. MLA can only propose projects but initiating and implementing projects is not in his hands. It has to done by the officials of various departments who follow the directives of DC. Do you remember the episode of shifting Kaup govt college? BJP led by the district-in-charge minister was hell-bent on shifting the college. But they could not do it because DC Hemalatha asked the minister to first compensate about Rs 40 lakhs spent earlier to build the college in the existing place. This happened at a public place wherein minister along with Kaup MLA and others were waiting outside the college. . College has not yet been shifted and it won''t be in the near future. A minister can at the most transfer or suspend IAS officers but cannot send them packing home forever. Udupi development is solely because of Ponnuraj and not Raghupati or anyone else.

In the last election Mr. Gowda, fooled the Mangalore electorate, and this time he ran away because he didn''t have an answer to them and the guts to face them again, now he''s come to mess the udupi area, if this guy is given a vote, the people are voting for destruction, people should sit and analyise between, Mr. J.P and Gowda, there is no comparison, whichever party Mr. Hegde belongs, he is a man of the people, he will strive hard for developement, he has done all his life, hope sense prevails on voting day, it's our duty to DUMP this GOWDA, so that udupi can prosper

Mr Ravindra Poojari/Udupi. I am also from Udupi and there are lot of road works going on. But this is not BJP achievement. It was started much before BJP came to power. The project was apporved long back and fund was allocated. But project didnt see the sunshine as it was under litigation and all of us know how long it takes before the matter is decided in the courts. Even I have joined consumers forum in pressing for the roads and sat in the burning sun whole day in the kalsanka bridge. Now BJP is taking credit for previous governments works. What BJP has done in its capacity is very much interesting. Nothing but communual tension, hatred. Their greatest achievement is stealing common mans peace, stealing parents peace of mind, hijacking the security and safety of female folks. The list continues. Another great achievement of BJP is to divert tax payers money to temples. I am not against temples. But the temples are rich and have their own sources of funds. But unfortunately the money didnt go to temples, but it went to the trustees and swamis. The common devotee didnt get any thing. He is there where he stood before.

I surely agree with the law minister in his advise to the people to come in large number and exercise the vote and be a role model for other states. I really welcome this message. But whom to vote is to be decided by the voter himself and not by the BJP.
