Mangalore, Apr 28:
The district Janata Dal (S) president Balaraj Rai joined the Congress party in the presence of former chief minister M Veerappa Moily at the Election Office here on Tuesday April 28.

Addressing press persons after joining the party, he said he has no enmity with the JD (S), but the recent developments in the party have forced him to embrace Congress. He added that Deve Gowda’s party would lose its existence in Dakshina Kannada district. Many more members and workers of JD (S) are frustrated with the decisions taken by the top leaders.

"I have not discussed with any leaders regarding my joining Congress party. I have joined the party without any condition. The victory of the Congress party is urgently required for the well being of the nation at this juncture. This party is the only hope to the country," he stressed.

Case against Palemar

The district Congress Committee said that it would file election code of conduct violation case against the district-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar with the Election Commission for delivering a statement in a press conference that the BJP would simplify the Self-Assessment Tax in city after the election.

DCC president B Ramanatha Rai said that the BJP is involved in carrying out false campaign against the UPA through handbills and statements out of frustration. Commenting on Ananth Kumar’s criticism on Janardhan Poojary, he said the real face of the former union minister will be unveiled after thorough investigation of HUDCO scam. He has no moral right to criticize the Congress candidate.

The committee opined that the state government could have avoided the price rise by proper distribution of ration cards and BPL cards. It is also the responsibility of the state government to contain the price hike.

MG Hegde, Kallige Tharanata Shetty, Ashraf Kallega were present.
