Udupi, June 5: "If human beings fulfill their necessities by using the resources available in the nature judicially, it is possible to protect environment," opined justice C M Joshi, district and session judge and president of district law services authority.

Justice Joshi was speaking after inaugurating the World Environment Day celebration at the Ramesh Mahabala Shetty auditorium at Padubidri near here on Wednesday, June 5. This programme was organized under the joint auspices of Karnataka state pollution control board, district administration, district law services authority, department of public instruction, tourism department, Coastal regulation authority and Bharat Scouts and Guides Udupi district.

Justic Joshi further said, "We have to use the resources to an extent that is needed for our necessities of daily life. Man does not have the right to use the natural resources for his leisure life. Greed should not be shown on the environment. Everyone has to inculcate the habit of giving back something to nature after getting benefit from it. Environment should not be polluted by unscientific disposal of waste. Everyone should take care of the environment in their daily activity."

Acting DC Vidya Kumari presided over the function. A Jatha was organized from Hejamady Toll gate on account of the World Environment Day. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the painting competition.

Dr Laxmikant, district environment officer did the introductory speech. Urmila, assistant environment officer welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Deepa Udupa.
