Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai (SP)

Dubail, May 2: Fatima Maicho Suvaad, FAMAD Pernal, Dubai, presented ‘Rang Tarang – 2009’  on Friday May 1, 2009  at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium. Rang Tarang, a mixture of Sangeeth Sauvad, Famad Dance Challenge 2009, and a drama titled 'Chintun Polle' entertained the crowd.

The programme started with the  prayer, rendered on flute and Tabla by Shree Kumar and Sameer, followed by lighting of the lamp by the main sponsor of the event, Micheal D'Souza of Humaid Al Suwaidi,  Joseph Mathias, managing director of Merit Freight Systems and Natalia Madtha, on behalf of Integrated Freight and Logistics.

The entertainment session started off with welcome song by Famad Pernal. Sangeeth Suvaad began with a popular song 'Suryo Budon' sung by Rony Byndoor and Lydwin Cutinha, followed by 'Dekhnni' - 'Haanv Saibha Polthodi Vetam' folk song. Pangalites dancers danced for this number. This was followed by 'Tujevinn' sung by Asha Fernandes. Dinesh Correa sang Lawrence Saldanha's 'Hai Bai Hai' song . 'Ocean Kids' dancers gracefully gyrated to the tunes of this song. Veera Rodrigues, another promising singer, sang Lorna's 'Kalzanth Tavn Mog Kelo' song.

Dony Correa's entry on to the stage was dramatic and unique, as he emerged from the  middle of the crowd and rendered 'Jasmina' and 'Roseline' Songs, folowed by the title song of 'Mogachim Lharan' along with Lydwin. A Tulu Song 'Radha Radha' was melodiously sung by Dony and Asha Correa.

'Ago Bai' song from the album, 'Mog Ason' and 'Darya Kuxin' song, were sung by Dony and group, while the Ocean Kids dancers came up with a beautiful dance for this song. Dony and Asha then sang a Kannada Song 'Shilegalu Sangeethava Haadive' and Deeksha D'Mello won the hearts of the crowd by presenting classical Bharatanatyam dance for this song.

The 'Sangeeth Suvaad' session concluded with Maando, sung by Dony and group with Ramesh Nair's ‘Dance Galaxy’ performing the dance for the song.

Dinesh Correa compered the 'Sangeeth Suvaad' session.

Before the start of the second session, 'Famad Dance Challenge 2009', main sponsors of the event were felicitated.

Famad Pernal felicitated well known Konkani dramatist Francis Fernandes Cascia for his achievement in Konkani theatre. Dayan D'Souza accepted the honour on behalf of Francis Fernandes in his absence.

Daijiworld.com's Walter Nandalike was honoured for his meritorious service in Mangalorean media worldwide. Wilma D'Souza Nandalike accepted the honour, as Walter was out of station.

Noted singer Vincent Fernanades Cascia was felicitated for his contribution to the field of Konkani music. He was awarded the title, 'King of Tunes' by Famad Pernal.

Famad Pernal also felicitated Marian D'Souza, who had flown in to Dubai from Kuwait, specially to witness this event.

The second session of 'Rang Tarang', started with Asha Correa, compere of the session, introducing the judges, Namitha, Ramesh Nair (ex dance director of Nach Sobhann), Harsha and The Power Man, RJ of Radio 4 FM.  Eight finalists presented their ever-best performances in a bid to win the dance competition and the bounty that was attached with the title, 'Konkani Naach Kunvor/ Kunvorn 2009'.

Gavin Rodrigues emerged as the winner, by annexing the title, 'Konkani Nach Kunvor 2009' along with a trophy and AED 3003/- in cash. Delvina D'Souza  won the first runner up trophy and AED 2002/- in cash, while  Clarissa Fernandes won the second runner-up trophy and AED 1001/- in Cash. The ‘Best Costume’ award  was won by Gavin Rodrigues and Vinod Sequeira won the 'Best Choreographer' award for the dance choreographed for Gavin Rodrigues.

Co-sponsors and support sponsors were felicitated before the beginning of the third session.

'Chintun Polle', a Konkani play, written by Dony Correa and directed by Vishwanath Shetty, won the hearts of the audiences. Pokri Pernal artistes once again proved that they have plenty of talents in them, with their touching performance. After the play was enacted, Vishwanth Shetty, director of the play and Kethan D'Souza, music director of the play,  were felicitated for their valuable contribution to the success of the play.

Uttam Menezes compered the event.

Famad Fernal, a team of young enthusiasts living in UAE and hailing from Pernal parish (Udupi district) of Mangalore diocese, put in Herculean efforts to ensure the success of this event. Stage setting and organizing skills of Famad Pernal was appreciated by every one in the crowd, which was over 1000 strong, that sat glued to their seats as the  fest of entertainment unfolded in front of their eyes, right from 5.00 pm to 11.00 pm.

Mr. Arun is compered this show may be with some professional outsider artist, singers & musicians. I would like bring about some fact which we have to think of this event.

. We can''t compere this to any other mangalorean konkani, tulu or kannadda shows because they are big organisation. Pernal is very small parish in M\lore which is in Shirva Varado. If you''re there then you can know about the Pernal. 2. Famad Pernal is one of the Zamath and not a big organisation. Their total strength in UAE is very less. 3. They utilised the talents only from UAE and not from outside. All the artist, singers, musicians, dancers are from here only. It is hard to gather them and Practice. It may take more than 2 months to conduct such stage show.

     4. We have to think about the creativity about show. It is easy to call the groups from outside by paying them but it is hard to search the talents in here then guide them, guard them and present to the large crowd. 5. Those who doing the events they only know the task behind it. Thank You

Dear Mr. Arun Rodrigues, dubai. You have commented on the comments from SFX Kutam Member saying he has never attended any quality shows in Dubai so far. For your information we the Konkani community wants to support any Konkani shows organized by any organization. We know how difficult it is to organize such Konkani shows and that also on a stage like this. We know the efforts behind organizing such events, the money spent on these events etc. We attended the recent program organized by Daijidubai which was really excellent. But daiji can afford to organize such quality shows on such a large scale mainly with the brand name that they have built up over the years and the support which they receive from their well-wishers. We support the efforts taken by Mr. Dony and his team and motivate them to conduct such shows in future too. Instead of commenting on some others views, express your views and tell the readers what u feel of this show…thats enough. Thnx

"Congratulations" to Dony Correa, Asha Correa, their team and all the Office Bearers and committee members of Famaad Pernal for having put up a wonderful variety show "RANG TARANG". The quality and success of this variety show re-affirms our belief that Dubai’s Konkani speaking community is in for many more quality shows after the highly acclaimed tremendous success of "Daiji Utsav" held two weeks back at the same venue. Credit goes to the organisers of "RANG TARANG" for their brave effort to plan and ute this variety show with so many good elements such as Konkani singing and dancing, dancing competition and Konkani drama.

First of all it is not easy to put up even one element in a show successfully. But with three different segments, only the organisers know how much efforts have gone into organising such a difficult event. Famaad Pernal not only took the brave decision to do it but they did it very well which, we are sure pleased every one present in the hall. They deserve full Marks The first part "Sangeeth Suwad" the Singing and dancing secession was brilliant with so many singers singing at their best spearheaded by Dony Correa with fantastic music provided by the local group headed by Mr. Arun Carlo.

The selections of the songs were fairly good and entertaining. The dances by ocean kids were very pleasing to the eyes with their outstanding group dance and lovely costumes. To add variety there was also a bharata-natyam presentation too. The traditional Mando was a welcome addition though the dance for the mando could have been better co-ordinated. The Second Segment was "the dance Competition" was well done and in general the quality of the participants were fairly good. The little children did their best and put up good competition and it was good to watch the tremendous dancing talent, the young generation has in them.

All they need is such but continuous encouragement and opportunities to take their dancing skills to greater heights. The Third segment was the Konkani Drama "Chinttun Polle", a well written and enacted drama with all the artist putting up their best acting abilities to the fore front. The settings were brilliant and well designed. All the characters were well established and all the actors did their part fairly well and "Salu" stole the heart of the audiences with his brilliant timing, acting and dialogue delivery.

The play could have been better by taking care of few finer details in few of the departments such as costumes, narration, expressions, effective lighting and sound system hick ups. In addition to these three segments there was also honoring of eminent people, sponsors etc, but it was kept short and sweet. One notable but welcome difference was that there were hardly any speeches. Special mention should be said about the stage set-up which was very elegantly done and the music was very pleasant to hear. The programme was conducted crisply without many gaps. IT was commendabl

Dear Precilla, My view on your comments is that we should be proud of these young RISING STARS, instruments in keeping alive the spirit of konkani by their interest, hardwork and commmittment. We need to appreciate them, more for this particular one which was rather worthy of our praise. 1. Starting the programme at 4 p.m would be only for the furniture in the hall & you and me who was present there sharp at 4 p.m. 2.Al Nasr Leisurland is no way to be compared to a perfect Shaikh Rashid auditorium for a stage programme. A quality programme can never be lengthy for the ones who enjoy it. Regarding food there was as a break of 10 minutes and a canteen outside. Dear editor, Famad program was good, they put good efforts. But I have few observation with all konkani event organisers in UAE

    1. Start program on time. Rang Tarang announced at 4 pm, but started at 5

    2. Pls do not organise lengthy entertainment at auditoriums. If you provide lengthy programs, pls organise in Al Nasr leisureland or other similar events so people can eat and drink comfortably.

    3. In case you do not provide dinner, pls wind-up event before 9 or latest by 9.30. This program ended at 11.00 pm which is too late.

I must congratulate Famad people, but it was too lenthy and drama was not upto the mark. First two parts were quite OK. Sound should have been better. All the best for the future events of Famad team.

It appears to me that this was one of the most attended show by our Konkani speaking people in UAE, as the full house itself says it all. Though I did not get a chance to attend this show, but the pictures that I saw on the Daijiworld, tells me that it was a fantastic show. Keep it up Pamad Pernal team, Hats off to all the people involved in organizing this show, your sincere efforts, your dedication and organizing skills were witnessed by all and appreciated

Famad Pernal team and all their associates - particularly Musicians, actors and participants are to be praised for their whole-hearted collective efforts & dedication turned the overall result of RANG TARANG, A success. Stage setting, lighting arrangement, well balanced music, to an extent sound system, added solid ingredients to the show. This time, locally available Musicians have proved their worth under the leader ship of Mr. Arun Carlo. Achieving experience by organizing programs of this kind, should carry you all, a long way to add innovation and quality to future programs. It was one of the best programmes I have ever witnessed in Konkani. Singing was superbly melodious, FAMAD Dance Challenge was like any Bollywood kind of shows, and drama was hilarious. I have never ever seen such a well-organised show. Full marks to team FAMAD for their brilliant organising skills. As reported in daijiworld.com, it was a fest of events. My sincere thanks to Famad Pernal for taking our mother tongue Konkani such great heights. Marvellous indeed.
