Sullia: Block Congress president Jayaprakash Rai resigns

Daijiworld Media Network- Sullia (SP)

Sulliia, Jun 6: The president of block Congress committee here, N Jayaprakash Rai, has resigned from his post. The resignation letter dated June 1 submitted by him has been sent to state Congress president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, through district unit president, Harish Kumar.

The party unit here, which has been battered by a series of defeats and setbacks, has suffered another jolt with the resignation of the block Congress president.

Jayaprakash Rai had taken over as block Congress president two years back. Before that, M Venkappa Gowda was the president of this unit. During the choice of new president, some dissident activities had copped their heads but they died down later. Three from here also were made secretaries of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

Rai, known for his efficient working style and discipline, had strengthened the party. His functioning had instilled a newfound enthusiasm among party workers. However, the crushing defeats suffered by the party in assembly and Lok Sabha elections and repeated fine performance by the BJP had poured cold water on the upbeat attitude of party activists. In the town panchayat election here also BJP rose to power.

Among these setbacks, the resignation of Rai has come as a shock for the party. Considering the fact that this region has been a strong bastion of the BJP since long, the question as to who would take up the mantle has become a curious question.
